 This USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter is highly recommended for use with our PTVnet kits for select Series2 DirecTV TiVo units and the HDTV DirecTV/Hughes HR10-250.
If you are planning on networking wirelessly, use it in combination with a wireless bridge or gaming adapter and a PTVnet kit for your unit.
You can also use this adapter to connect any Series2 standalone unit to your home network so that you can make your "daily call" using your Internet connection, instead of a phone line.
This is also a great option to use on standalone TiVo units when your modem is broken or if you are using Vonage (or another VOIP service) and your unit has problems connecting using the phone line.
Note that these adapters will only work with PTVnet kits and software versions released after December 20, 2006. If you purchased your kit prior to then, you will need a 'recertification' service to update the software, and if you are using DIY software, you'll need to update to the latest version.
