I ordered a 160 GB HD when my Hughes SD-DVR80 kept freezing and not getting past the powering up screen. Leading up to buying the drive, I sent DVRupgrade several emails with various questions. Did I wait days for a reply? NO. Literally, within a few hours they responded. That doesn't happen often. When I ordered the drive, emails were sent with all the information I needed, and it arrived in 3-4 days, packaged very well. What more can you ask for? If you are comfortable tinkering, InstantCake is fantastic. The direction here are honest, this is not a fully supported piece of software, but for me the risk was well worth it, and the support forums are still there for you. A download of the disc image (ISO) plug in a new drive into my PC and reboot. Tinker with the settings (there are a few choices) and you've replaced a bad TiVo drive (or increased capacity.) When my series 3 drive failed, this let me get up and running within a few hours. Now, I'm back for a different version to expand capacity on a different TiVo in my house. I'd warn - if you lack the skill or desire to open your PC and TiVo, use their other service and ship the whole thing back. Either way, I'd recommend these guys, it's a great product.

I own 3 TiVos and the first hard drive to go was the newest, a 3 year old Series3 High Def Model, with a lifetime program guide....... Heard about DVRupgrade through a friend. After several questions, I ordered the 1 TB Western Digital hard drive. Ordered on Sunday, shipped on Monday, and received it on Wednesday. Instructions were clear and understandable. After 2.5 years, my TiVo Series 2 start randomly rebooting. InstantCake seems to have fixed the problem. I was ready to send Tivo $199 for a new TiVo but $20 to DVRupgrade fixed my problem. On the negative side, it would have been difficult for a non-computer person to do this with the boot CD. Thanks for saving me the $199.

I purchased my TiVo DVR not long after the company had come into existence so I was extremely attached to it (and had had it a very long time). Since it was so long ago I had the good fortune of being able to take advantage of a lifetime subscription for $299, but the one catch was that the subscription was only good for that TiVo unit, not my account. So when it started to act up - - freezing, shutting down on its own, etc. I was actually a little sad that I was going to lose my TiVo for good. (Side note: Also, I have both a DirecTV DVR and DirecTV TiVo DVR, but they're just not the same!). My TiVo unit is in my bedroom and I didn't watch TV there for almost two months because I wasn't sure what to do. Since we have two other DVRs it wasn't a problem not to use it, just inconvenient. And I didn't want to throw it out so it just sat there, unused. Well, one day I decided that maybe I could get it fixed so I researched the problem on the internet and found out that it was most likely just my hard drive so I looked around and found your company. I was so glad that I did! To be honest, I was a little skeptical about buying a hard drive for a TiVo DVR on-line, but after installing it, I couldn't be happier. The entire installation process was so incredibly easy and with the pre-loaded software (fantastic!), it was a piece of cake. When I saw the little TiVo mascot dancing around on the screen, I'm embarrassed to admit that I jumped up and down and clapped my hands!! My techie brother-in-law was visiting at the time and was very impressed with your company. I have owned at least 1 of ever TiVo model made. I currently have 6, two TiVo series 2, two TiVo Series 3's and two TiVo-HD's. I have used DVRupgrade drives in all of them. Typically replacing a failed drive with a much larger capacity drive. But in the case of the TiVo-HD's, I simply had to replace the stock drive with larger ones. My daughter recently called saying that her TiVo died and would I get her one for her birthday. No, but nice try sweetheart. You however can replace the failed drive by yourself. Then I directed her to this web site, helped her pick one out to fit her budget. About a week later she called to brag about getting it installed without any help. That's my girl!

I sent my Humax T800 off for a DVRupgrade and to have the staff look at a DVD recording problem I was having with my unit. This was a few months back. Scott was the primary person working on my unit and Lou Jacob was advising/assisting. Communication between these two individuals with me was outstanding. They were able to fix the problem with the DVD recording part of my unit also. I highly, highly recommend the DVRupgrade for any TiVo products. I had one initial problem with my first recording, but changing the type of DVD product corrected this error. Now I have doubled by capacity of recording TV shows without purchasing a new TIVO lifetime guarantee. I saved at least $300.00 by upgrading my Humax T800. I use my TIVO (Humax) unit everyday. I can't say enough for the superior job Scott did. They got me back up and running in no time.

About a year ago the drive went bad on our 40 hour TiVo. TiVo customer service said there was nothing I could do except buy another TiVo. I'm a computer guy and didn't care for that answer. I had an extra (bigger) hardrive and bought the InstantCake software. The price was right. I followed the directions and installed the drive in the TiVo. A couple of months ago, I purchased a 160 GB hard drive kit from DVRupgrade for my DirecTivo, as the old one was failing. While the website had helpful information, I had some additional questions which the staff answered quickly. I installed it myself and the old problems I was having have disappeared. The extra room for recording is a bonus. Hopefully, the unit will now last until DirecTV comes out with an HD Tivo model. The install was a snap. My out of commission TiVo was up and running in no more than 10 minutes and I got to keep my lifetime subscription too! The hardest part was waiting while the TiVo setup ran. Had a drive failure on my Teries 3 HD after about 18 months of operation. Replaced with 750G from DVRupgrade. Perfectly easy to do the swap. TiVo upgraded to most recent version of code in about 24 hours. The way the TiVo and the kit are designed I made the swap in about 15 minutes including re-cabling. Smooth sailing ever since. So much recording time its is a bit of a problem to keep up. What a happy problem! Don't notice any real difference in the noise level.

Yesterday I downloaded InstantCake and purchased a 1TB drive from a local reseller. The InstantCake application worked like a champ. It took four update sessions from Tivo before my Tivo HD was fully operational. The base software doesn't support cable cards or the tuning adapter, so take them out until you finish doing the software updates. After all the updates were done, the cards and adapter were working. One note, you'll need to contact your cable provider to reactivate your cable cards. With that said, over all experience was good.

Since DirectTV and TiVo divorced I was worried I would have to use a lesser quality DVR when my satellite receiver/TiVo DVR failed after 8 years. What a great product, and what a great staff! Now that we are watching TiVo in HD there is no going back to SD. I purchased the 250GB upgrade drive when the original drive in my TivoHD started to fail after 1 year. I couldn't get through a single recording without the playback freezing which usually required a manual reboot to fix. The installation of the new drive was very simple and my TiVo has been running flawlessly ever since. Initially I thought the new drive was just slightly more noisy than the original but it either has quieted down or I do not notice it any longer. My only regret is not ordering a larger upgrade drive...

I couldn't believe how easy this was. It was well worth the $19.99. I didn't even move anything around. My goal was to replace the failed stock drive in my Toshiba SD-H400. On the desktop that I used I had a DVD burner (secondary master), DVD rom and two hard drives attached to my XP desktop. Using the 'Advanced" mode it took just a few minutes. In all fairness I did already have the target drive attached but it was done so as a primary slave. If you know where everything is mounted (get that from the boot screen) it is easy. Well my series 1 Sony SAT-T60 was slowly dying. It would constantly stutter on any recorded playback, some channels would become stuck and I couldn't change from them...and they became nearly unwatchable. Responses to the remote also became painfully slow. So I did some searching and found this website. I ordered the 146 hour replacement drive and the CacheCard bundle. It arrived within 2 days. I installed everything within about 30 minutes (not counting a dremel hole I made for the Ethernet cable). I found the info on the forum to start up TivoWeb which allows me to control my tivo from any PC on the web anywhere, including my cellphone! The new drive/cachecard bundle resolved all my previously stated problems...and even make it work faster! I'm completely satisfied. Money well spent. Thanks Lou and Scott for all your help. Our DirecTV TiVo lost its hard drive( and lots of programming) one morning. I finally decided to upgrade the disk to a usable amount. We got the middle size drive and went from less than 30 hours of programming to over 100 hours. It is so fantastic not having to worry about running out of room!! The installation went well. The instructions were clear and correct. The only issue was that the screen said it was checking out the drive for hours on end. After 4 hours of sitting I just did a power cycle and the system started right up. Our TiVo also lost one antenna input about the same time. I contacted customer service for ideas and options. Lou was very prompt and very helpful.

I had 3 TiVo Series 2 boxes that had all gone on the fritz over a period of about 2 months. I finally gave up trying to fix them myself and sent them to Lou and the guys at DVRupgrade. Service was great. Got my Series 3 TiVo when expected. Had some problems with playback and pretty much instantly received guidance on a Sunday night. Turns out the S3 had a bad hard drive. TiVo is shipping out a new one now, but I don't see that as a poor reflection on the seller. Funny thing is, the S3 cost $299 here, I think. TiVo charged me $850 to ship a refurb out. I'll get it back when I ship mine back to them though.

It just doesn't get easier than this to bring your broken TiVo back to life. It's very simple, just a few screws and a couple plugs and a new hard drive is in the TiVo. Once it was all hooked up again and powered up, it was working again immediately. It took a couple hours to download programming etc. and we had to call DirecTV to get our local channels back, but it was all EASY! DVRupgrade does a great job!

My dual input DirecTV-TiVo receiver started failing. Since they don't make them anymore, I was afraid I was going to have to use the DirecTV DVR, but a web search for TiVo failure turned up DVRupgrade. The ordering process was simple, and the hard drive came really quickly. I'm not handy, but I got up early, had a cup of coffee, and followed the detailed instructions w/o a hitch. My TiVo is working fine now, and has twice the capacity.

I purchased my first 300+hour TiVo Series 1 from DVRupgrade in 2003. Since then I have not purchased any DVR-related products from anywhere else. My Toshiba with free basic TiVo died. I looked around to buy something similar and everything now requires subscription. Then I found this place. ordered a new hard drive. They send you everything inclding the tools. I know nothing about this stuff, but did it in about 30 minutes and it all worked perfectly. Life is good again. This is a much cheaper alternative to buying a new unit. Hopefully I can keep mine forever now, but just buying new hard drives ;-)

I was having trouble with my DVR and it would freeze me quite often and I checked online and people were saying that I most likely had a bad hard drive. I bought a DVRupgrade hard drive and it fixed the problem plus my drive can store three times more than my original hard drive! It was definitely worth it!

I first used DVRupgrade (then PTVupgrade) when I had a drive fail in a TiVo Series2 a few years ago. While I'd upgraded TiVos in the past using the manual Hinsdale method, and I'm comfortable with it, it is a bit of a hassle. So I used an Instant Cake CD to image a new drive to repair the unit. I was extremely happy with the product and I've recommended it countless times on a number of forums, groups, lists, etc. For the price it really is a no brainer compared to 'rolling your own'. A couple of months ago the factory drive in my Pioneer TiVo 810H died. This time, due to being extremely busy and not having a PC readily available to use for imaging, I opted to buy a drop-in replacement drive. It is the more costly option, but for those who are not technical, or for technical sorts without the time to spare (like myself at the time), it is a great option. I swapped the drive in just a few minutes and had the unit back. And I went from 80GB to 750GB in the process - just because I could. I've been so happy with DVRupgrade's products, as well as with my interactions with Lou Jacob, that my blog is a member of their affiliate program and I recommend their products to my readers, and anyone else looking for TiVo upgrades or the like.

I recently replaced a failed hard drive in an older TiVo. I wanted to spend as little as practical since this was my first upgrade, in case I completely blew it. Now I wish I'd spent more for the larger drive because it was SO easy to just put the replacement drive in my TiVo, turn it on, and *poof* it looks like a new unit! I have three TiVo's and will be upgrading one a year just for more capacity, why wait for another disk failure!

I recently installed 750GB upgrade kits in my TiVo Series 2 and my Humax Series 2 DVR's. For the most part the process was painless with one caveat - the software installed on each of the drives was not the most current version. In the case of the Humax, the software version was old enough that it did not support a network connection so I had to purchase a long phone cable and temporarily connect it to a phone jack to perform the software upgrade.

I've done 3 upgrades on 3 different Sony SAT-T60's. Every time, the kits have been shipped promptly, and installed seamlessly. Two of these upgrades are several years old and still running great. I have also done upgrades with InstantCake using bare drives, but when you want it done NOW without any potential issues, DVRupgrade is the way to go.

My wife had just left for vacation for 18 days, so there were plenty of programs set up to record in her absence. The very day after she left, our Toshiba TiVo began making the familiar clicking of a dead hard drive. I was devastated when my TiVo stopped working. The DVRupgrade website helped me determine that the problem was likely just the hard drive, so I took a chance and ordered one. Unfortunately the one I ordered was out of stock, but I was given an alternative. I purchased a little smaller drive and it arrived even quicker than promised (great service)! Installation was a piece of cake and everything is working fine again. I think I'll order more drives, just to upgrade the capacity on my other units!

When my TiVo went out I was panic stricken. Then I found DVRupgrade. What a lifesaver! I sent my TiVo back to them. They replaced the drive and cleaned it and returned it in a timely fashion. I purchased a 250GB drive for my DirecTivo. Everything worked perfectly. Unfortunately, after almost a month drive drive failed. I emailed the problem to DVRupgrade, and after a little bit of trouble-shooting they suggested I return the drive. They offered a GetWell kit, but I had already replaced the drive with my old not quite dead drive. I received my replacement drive without issue very soon after sending the failed one, all under their warranty. Overall, it was great service.

My drive failed in my Series2 TiVo. Replaced it with a 328 Hour (320Gig) replacement drive. The website made ordering easy. The drive arrived quickly. I am glad it did. I missed my TiVo! My DirectTV TiVo DVR had gotten progressively worse over the past year. I kept stalling about getting a new one since DirectTV will not give a replacement TiVo box and I do not like their DVR features. I have a TiVo Series 1, which after six years began to have problems and I needed to either throw it away or replace the drives. I found DVRupgrade through the internet and the services looked reasonable in price and I had the option to have them insetall it. I ordered TiVo 80 hr upgrade with TurboNet and purchased the shipping box. I received the box, put my TiVo in, attached the label they printed for me and took it to UPS. I got is back in about two weeks. It worked great from the start. I was able to get my network card to recognize the TiVo IP. I have since hooked my TiVo up to a WiFi bridge so that I can connect wirelessly. It works very well over my network. Good service. I have recommended it to my friends.

I would like to let you know that yesterday I purchased InstantCake and PTVnet for a Hughes SD-DVRXX and the install was fast and easy. After installing the new drive in my TiVo, it fired right up and was a fast clean install. I will definitely recommend you to my friends and family to upgrade their DVRs. I found the DVRupgrade Kit well documented and the installation process to be trauma free. It even gave me a chance to use "canned air" to remove three years accumulation of dust from my DVR chassis, a cleaning which I suspect will add some years to its life span as the Upgrade Kit has added to its usefulness.

My Series 3 was stuttering and started freezing up, so I knew it had to have been the hard drive. I briefly considered purchasing InstantCake to do it myself, however I figured it would save me a lot of hassle to just buy an upgrade kit. And I am GLAD I did! It was so simple! Using the provided instructions, I used the suppled torx screwdriver, popped out the old drive and in the new one, and I was finished. I was very impressed with how quickly the drive arrived to my house and how easily it was to install. I would certainly consider DVRUpgrade again if I need a new TiVo drive.

I have four TiVo Series one machines. All in use all the time. First I contacted another kit seller. They sent the wrong drive...(one for a sony/direct tv unit) since then, I have purchased the hard drive kits for three of them from DVRupgrade. The first install took me about 10 minutes. Second and third times about 5 minutes each. The serial cable included came in VERY handy on one of the machines. While trying to disconnect the old cable the hard plastic broke. And of course, the included torx driver to open the case turned out to be very handy. (i had thought it was a small phillips... boy would I have been upset...) service was very quick... got the replacement kits in three days. Just replaced the drives and ran setup again. everything has worked perfectly ever since. I will continue to replace drives as long as I can because I have lifetime service on these machines. I will also continue to buy kits from DVRupgrade. Thanks.

We have an older series 2 and thought the drive was going bad. (turned out to be an update from TiVo) So we decided to upgrade our drive. I had bookmarked DVRupgrade a year before (just in case) and found the right drive for my unit and 4 times the storage. The step by step instructions allowed me to swap out the drives in 10 minutes. On our old drive we'd get messages about nearly full drive, but with the new one we have 101 programs in the delete file and 30 waiting to view.

The drive arrived in less than a week, with all the cables and very easy to follow instructions. I was worried about whether I had the correct screwdriver to open my TiVo, when to my surprise, I found one in the box! That made me almost as happy as the prospect of getting my TiVo working again with ten times the capacity, at a price I thought was more than reasonable. I have a DS708 and wanted to upgrade the hard drive, I ordered the 160 gig, it was at the door before I got the email it seemed that it was shipped. I did have a problem with it at first, (directv) but it was handled fast! It is now in the machine and recording without trouble. Installation of the hard drive could not have been easier. Installation instructions, including photos, were crystal clear. Tool to open unit and new cable were included. The hard drive restored a dead TIVO back to life. It is now working flawlessly with a 310 hour capacity. I regret not doing this sooner. I love being able to control my TiVo from my computer. Very nice job! Installation was quick and easy, assumming you are good with a screw driver. I wrote a ruby script that parses the TiVo pages and creates an html page showing all the movies I have not looked at yet so I can quickly record the movies I want I was to record without having to trudge through all of the guide data.

I have a lifetime contract with TiVo and DVRupgrade has allowed me to continue to reap the benefits of that investment. The installation instructions were clear and easy to follow - my machine required a 'torx' star-shaped screw driver, which was the only deviation from the printed instructions. I'm in the habit of researching any purchase of hundreds of dollars I'm about to make, to the point of being finicky. All three of my emails were answered in minutes, even one I sent after midnight. I made my purchase that night and the 1TB hard drive was sent the next day. The drive was well protected in it's box and arrived in a day or two. The installation into my TiVo was a piece of cake. The instructions were well detailed and they even included the necessary Torx screwdriver. From turning the first screw to installing the last screw took 22 minutes, as I slowly worked through the instructions. Now that I know the basic tasks involved, I'm sure I could do it again in half the time. The Hitachi hard drive is extremely quiet and I love all the recording time I now have. If you know how to use a screwdriver, you can have one too.

My Humax DTR400 would never upgrade the TIVO software and had intermittent issues. I tried all the Kickstart suggestions and nothing. One day it finally got stuck on "Almost There" and a few days later - no screen display at all. It had lifetime service. So now what!!! Others quoted that TiVo told them too bad, we don't sell these anymore go buy another. So, bought your InstantCake and baked me a new Humax DTR400 hard drive (a new 80GB that I owned compared to the older 40GB). And I was up and running in less than 20 minutes!!!! Can't believe how much time I wasted trying to fix this before!!! A few TIVO "connect to the TiVo service" and a few reboots and I had the newest software loaded (finally) and the Humax was back on my network sharing recordings and fully up to date index. You guys (gals?) are a lifesaver!!!

My TiVo hard drive was going bad as evidenced by stuttering of the picture and then freezing requiring a reboot of the TiVo. I knew I would lose my Lifetime Service status if I had to buy a new TiVo box. Thank goodness I found DVRupgrade. I ordered a new hard drive at 3pm on Tuesday, requested free shipping (regular delivery) and I had my new hard drive by 10am on Wednesday! I realize I live in the Chicagoland area and DVRupgrade is in Chicago, but that was fantastic! I easily installed my new hard drive and started my Guided Setup. I forgot that you cannot do your initial setup using a network and that stalled me for a bit, but once I remembered that, all went very smoothly. I am now completely updated, including the latest TiVo software (this might not happen immediately - just be patient it will come during one of your connections).

When my series 2 DirecTV TiVo (DVR40), started to freeze or reboot more than I was willing to accept, I searched for a solution. I found many sources on-line saying it was a failing hard drive. Thank goodness I found DVRupgrade. I already had a spare drive so I purchased InstantCake. It only took a few minutes to configure the new drive and InstantCake walked me though the formating of the drive with no problems. I swapped out the drive in my TiVo and I was back up and running. I should have replaced my hard drive years ago. I thought my TV is going bad but it was the drive. After cleaning the blanket of dust, swapping the drive took about an hour and my reception is perfect! It took about an additional 2 to 3 hrs to reload the programming but that is to be expected. Our TiVo started making a lot more noise than it should have. The recordings also began stuttering and playback and became very blocky at times. I ordered a DVRupgrade and it was a piece of cake to install. Seriously, if you know how to use a manual screwdriver you can upgrade the hard drive in your TiVo.

My toshiba RS-TX20 would regularly hang and I'd have to unplug it to reboot it. After doing some research I found that most likely it was the hard drive. So, I bought a new 500GB drive, downloaded the software to format the drive, booted the CD per instructions with my new drive attached to an old PC, and the drive was ready in about 10 minutes. I then plugged it back into my TiVo, powered it on, re-ran the setup and voila I have a working TiVo again. Just in time for the 2008 Formula 1 season. I now have 671 hours of recording time!

I called DirecTV and they told me that I would have to buy a new DVR. I asked if it would have more space and she said no. I told her that I was going to look into a way to repair it myself. My Series 2 quit working a few years ago. I have the lifetime package and was really pissed when I called Tivo, and they wanted a high price for a rebuilt unit, along with my old DVR. My 250GB hard drive upgrade arrived several day earlier than I expected and installed in 15 minutes with no problems whatsoever. My TiVo restarted and has been running perfectly since then with more than 3 times the mass storage it had initially. I was so impressed with the value and results that I then ordered a wireless network adaptor and experianced similar results, i.e. it came, I plugged it in, and went I turned on my PC the TiVo was there on my network. I got an upgrade kit for Christmas, a nice 250Gb drive, to replace my 40Gb "stock" drive that I hoped had died (my TiVo no longer powered up). I read the instructions, removed my old hard drive by removing a handful of screws, removed the drive, replaced it with the new one -- all in less than 5 minutes. Now, it took about a half hour for TiVo to connect to the home station and download updates, guides, messages, etc. but the replacement was easy, flawless, and most impressive of all, excellent value! My Humax DVR/DVD writer had a HD crash as diagnosed by the Humax company (which had excellent 24/7 service), however the cost of refurbishment was approximately $250. Upon doing research on the web I found a TiVo-sponsored site that provides a limited set of options similar to DVRupgrade, yet again the cost was on the order of $250. DVRupgrade ensured no marital conflict, made the kids happy, and allowed me to keep recording my favorite shows. Excellent price, intuitive web site, the equipment arrived early and the instructions were excellent. In less than 24 hours I had my DVR back up and must say that I'm highly impressed. I an a Senior Software Engineer and have experience with HW failure/fixes and vendors. DVRupgrade has surpassed all vendors efforts I have experienced thus far. Impressive.

My Pioneer DVR 810H with Tivo wouldn't let the newest version TiVo update. I found that the most likely reason was my drive was going. I purchased a much larger drive (250g) and greatly increased it's recording capacity. It was very easy to install, about 20 minutes total. TiVo was able to update and my system works perfectly now. After receiving my new hard drive in the mail, it sat for at least a month before I actually did the install. Part of the reason was the Christmas holidays and the other was the fear to actually do the install myself. Almost returned the product. After the new year, as I was cleaning up holiday stuff, I finally opened up the box the hard drive came in, opened the DVR, and followed the instructions. Was very easy and my DVR is now working great. The small screw driver tool that was included did not fit the screws in my DVR. However, I did have a tiny screw driver that worked so I did not need the extra tool. Success!

I ordered a drive for my dead series 2 TiVo. I paid no shipping and the drive came just a few days later. These guys even sent me the screwdriver needed to open the TiVo. Along with the drive was a sheet with idiot-proof instructions. I'd recommend DVRupgrade in a heartbeat, my experience from the initial purchase (a web site that guides you right to the product you want) to the install instructions was just a pleasure. I'm sorry I just left that dead TiVo there so long before finding this company.

I've bought two Hard Drive Upgrades, one each, for my Humax DRT800s -- a 160 and 320 Mb. Both have installed and run flawlessly. I had one question for technical support via email, and their response was rapid and accurate. Buying these drives is a no-brainer, not only for gaining extra recording capacity, but for gaining more life out of your TIVO. When one OEM hard drive died, Humax wanted $249 to replace the entire recorder with a refurbished unit. For $110 less I got a new DVRupgrade drive with twice the capacity. Bravo.

Replacement hard drive in my DTV R10 couldn't have been any easier. My old drive had been locking up for about 10 months and I finally had enough. Since I was replacing the drive, I decided to increase the capacity while I was at it (not that there is that much worth watching on TV). Just swapped out the drives and ran thru the setup. No software to load, no reconfigurations, no problems. I'll be upgrading my second receiver next month. Thanks DVRupgrade.

I have been very happy with my purchase from DVRupgrade. My package arrived quickly, the instructions were simple and straightforward, everything I needed was included in my kit, and everything worked exactly as described.I had a Hughes Tivo with a 40gb HD and I love Tivo but was hating that I had to keep deleting good programs to make room for newer one. My wife ordered a replacement hard drive for our dead Tivo. The ordering process was straightforward. The item shipped before Christmas and it came securely packaged. The best part was the actual product. From opening the package to removing my old hard drive and replacing it with this new much BIGGER hard drive, 5 minutes elapsed. I even read the directions! 20 minutes or so after the physical replacement, I was up and running (after getting my Tivo back on my home network, setting a couple of recordings, etc.)! InstantCake and drive work perfectly and the prices are competitive. My only gripe is that I wasn't promptly notified about a change in shipping cost since my address doesn't qualify for free shipping. Only after inquiring with DVRupgrade about a second charge to my credit card did I receive a revised invoice, then an email from customer service acknowledging the charge and apologizing for the "misunderstanding". Would be nice if their checkout system could adjust shipping totals before you complete the order. Or even being sent a revised invoice without having to inquire about unknown charges.

OMG! InstantCake! I am literally astounded. This was absolutely the easiest install I've ever done! I have modded three TiVo's to date. They all turned out great, but with plenty of sweat, painstaking attention to detail, and lots of prayer. Not so now! My dead Tivo2 was back up and running in 45 minutes! Super easy! I'm a techie and could have replaced the drive myself. There are plenty of directions on the web, but DVRupgrade was the complete package at a reasonable price. It simply wasn't worth the time and effort to find and purchase a hard drive at a 'super sale' price, find a TiVo image, and reconfigure a computer to burn the image, just to save a few dollars. This kit could not have been easier. It took perhaps 5 minutes to open the TiVo, replace the drive, and close it back up. Everything worked immediately. TiVo recognized the box as if nothing happened (I assume the service is based upon MAC addresses, not drive serial numbers) so I am back in business. As I sit here writing this, it occurs to me that I probably spent more time on this note than I did performing the drive replacement. Thanks, DVRUpgrade, and well done!

WOW. I had tried all the other internet image makers for my TiVo. My hard drive was dying and proceeded to completey die in the middle of my project to save my lifetime TiWOW.o subcription!! When I let my TiVo devolve to the point where it wouldn't boot any more, I thought my DVR goose was cooked. So I put an order into DVRupgrade and crossed my fingers. The upgrade arrived and within half an hour of starting the repair/upgrade process the new drive was installed and my TiVo was reconnected to the television. Another half hour later and the TiVo had reconfigured itself and was happily recording shows and with 4 times as much space available. Awesome!!!! For me, the experience was superb. For someone completely new to opening up a PC, the pictures in the instructions might be a little tough to follow. But that's a minor criticism and anyone with a modicum of experience will have no problems at all.

Great product, straight-forward to install, does what it says. It was delivered UPS ground to CA in 4 business days - faster than I expected. Online ordering was easy, lots of product info available on the web site. I am already preferring the browser interface to the regular TV interface of my upgraded Tivo, and of course the 235-hour capacity is a huge improvement over my its original 35 (great for recording ALL those World Cup Soccer games). After some basic setup on my home network's router, and the setup of a user/password on my Tivo, I can now manage my Tivo "live" wherever I have internet access - awesome! Added a second drive to DirecTV DVR Philips DSR704. Ordered on Friday arrived and installed on Monday. Self installation went smoothly. Drive plate was narrower than clips in DVR. I clamped the screws against the outer edges of the plate, instead of in the holes. Not really a problem.

PTV made a success story out of what started out on the wrong foot. Because I didn't pay close attention I had some confussion and originally ordered the wrong kit (1 drive vs 2 drive). PTV's personnel were very helpful with correcting the situation. While all correspondance was via email, I had responses in a very short time. Working together we identified what had confused me when I made my original order. I then received the kit I desired, and returned the first kit for credit. Installing the kit went exactly as described in the included directions. My DirectTivo is now fully functional with increased capacity. I believe PTVUpgrade is providing a quality product, with very good support and customer service. While I initially had negative feelings on this project when I got the wrong kit (again, my error), PTV's customer service turned that around completely. Call tech support and after trying a couple of things they suggested, they sent me a new drive. The new one was exchanged and I am very satisfied with the result. Their customer support is top notch.

The original hard drive that came with my DSR7000 DirecTivo was giving me troubles. I ordered the 105 HR Replacement Drive Kit with PTVnet and am very happy. I ordered the drive on 01/18/06 and received it on 01/19/06 via UPS next day air. One thing I noticed is their documentation does not state that your local channels may be missing at first. Don't panic. They do come back overnight. The install was a breeze, and my linksys USB200M (v1) adapter works like a charm. Two years after I made the purchase, I began to have problems with my drives from my TIVO upgrade. Went for a recertification of my TIVO. They found both my drives to be bad, replaced them with new ones, (drives had 3 year warranty) Fixed something damaged in shipping, reinstalled a bracket that I had misinstalled 2 years ago when I installed the upgrade kit, and returned it to me in record time. I finally added another drive to my Series 2 DirecTiVo- Model: HDVR2. I went from 35 hours to 141 hrs!! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! My Tivo hard drive crashed an I didn't have a backup. Instant Cake was a real lifesaver. I purchased two drives for two separate machines. One worked fine and the other didn't. Through expedient email replies to my questions, I was able to diagnose a defective drive. It was likely hardware and completely unrelated to the PTV software. They were great in replacing the drive via a 'get well' kit and spared no time doing so. Customer support was fantastic. Both my tivos are running perfectly now and so far the product has been all that I expected despite the initial glitch.

replacing the hard drive was so very easy. It took less than 20 minutes to read the instructions and then follow them slowly to make sure they were right. The only problem I had was when I started up my unit I was getting the wrong local channels. I thought the problem was with Directv and spent a lot of time on the phone with them. I should have contacted PTV first. They told me it would correct itself and it did. It might help others to include this warning in the directions. Wonderful service and easy to do.

Ordered a replacement drive for my Series 2. New drive had 7.01 software and would not connect to Tivo. :( Called Tivo, who were of course useless. eMailed PTYUpgraded at 8:00 PM. Found these folks by Googling when my DirecTivo could no longer make phone calls over Vonage. For about $200 they sent me a new harddrive that doubled capacity, enabled Networking, and just made the unit a heckuva lot more fun. For example, you can click on a title in Now Showing and link thru to the IMDB database to find detailed info on movies. So happy I just bought an upgraded HDTV DirecTivo from them. Couldn't disagree more about the price -well worth it and they are very responsive to inquiries etc.

In the simplest terms, InstantCake just worked -flawlessly. No problems whatsoever. My only 40hr TiVo disappointment (not enough storage at high-quality recording level) is gone. A $100.00 WD 200GB 7200rpm drive saw to that! It's a treat to know I can run InstantCake again to add additional space in the future, and to know I have recourse if a drive should fail. Open Source technology at its best! Kudos to TiVo for making it all possible, and to PTVupgrade for doing it. Great job one and all! PS..our newest pet hamster is named TiVo.

Instructions were very easy to follow and installation went smooth. Everything worked fine with no problems. I recently dropped local phone service and my series 1 tivo couldn't connect over the phone anymore. The caching Ethernet card allows me to download schedule info over my network. My only complaint is the cost. $400 to upgrade my 30hr Tivo to a 145hr Tivo with caching/networking. I could have just bought a new 140hr Tivo Series 2 for that price. I would only recommend this upgrade for those who aren't too cost conscious or those that like hacking into consumer electronics. All cost complaints considered, I'm still very happy with the upgrade.

I was in the middle of upgrading my Tivo one weekend when I realized my Tivo's current drives had died and were unrecoverable. In desperation, I sent mail to ptvupgrade and Lou answered very quickly, on a Sunday no less! I purchased this product and was happy with the ordering process and shipping, but where this company shine through and what prompted me to review them is the customer service I received when I had a problem. I ordered the dive upgrade for my Tivo and my Tivo died. I contacted PTVupgrade and they had me ship the Tivo back to them along with the Tivo receipt in case they needed to work with Tivo for repairs. They actually took my Tivo to Best Buy where I had pruchesed it, were able to exchange the Tivo, they installed the drive upgrades for me and shipped everything back to me in a very short amount of time. This is my third PTVUpgrade product and these guys continue to amaze me. EVERY Tivo owner NEEDS to have these guys work there magic on your Tivo unit. Seriously. The guys at PTVupgrade.com are fantastic. They are extremely thorough, know exactly what they're doing and my Tivo unit is now way better than it was before I brought it there. The pricing is exceptionally fair and they've been extremely helpful (and patient) dealing with some of my "how do I do this" questions I've had post upgrade. They make it all easy! Feel free to e-mail me if anyone has questions but I highly recommend PTVupgrade!

Wow! What can I say about Lou and PTV Upgrade that's negative?! Nothing! Service is prompt, Lou provides phenomenal email support and guidance, and the products are great. I've had the pleasure of relying on Lou now several times for my TiVo upgrades and he has never let me down! I highly recommend PTV Upgrade.

Purchased a 106-hour replacement drive for a Philips DirecTivo unit. Drive arrived quickly, replacement went smoothly. After installation, though, I encountered a problem with the TiVo Guided Setup. I didn't find reference to the problem on tivocommunity.com (though I have no doubt it was there, somewhere). On a Saturday evening, I went to the ptvupgrade.com support page and sent an e-mail describing the problem. Less than an hour later, I received an e-mail with the solution to the problem! Awesome service! This is the third or fourth TiVo upgrade drive I've purchased from ptvupgrade.com, and I've been very satisfied every time. In one other situation, I received extensive support from ptvupgrade.com (several e-mails exchanged), again resolving the problem effectively!

I was one of those too nervous to upgrade my tivo without having a prepared kit, so I ordered from ptvupgrade. The kit came with all the parts neccesary and excellent instructions. I ran into a minor problem that turned out to be my own fault (I needed to read the instructions more carefully), so I emailed the support line. I didn't expect any help until after the weekend, but a couple hours later I received some very helpful and friendly remarks that allowed me to proceed with the upgrade. They were anxious to followup with me, making sure things went smoothly, and they did. I am very happy with ptvupgrade! Thanks.

Service was great! Ordered a hard drive replacement for my Tivo system over the weekend (Sunday) and received it on Tuesday. Had it installed in 15 minutes. The instructions were a bit confusing since PTVupgrade chose to include instructions for both replacements and upgrades on the same sheet. However, since the unit was so easy to install this was not a problem. Definitely would use PTVupgrade again!

I ordered the Tivo 105 hour replacement drive for my Directv Tivo. Immediate email confirmation. Same day shipping with professional packing. The replacement drive I ordered came with excellent installation info and even included a hex driver needed for the install. Install was an easy 5 minute job. Great product at a great price.

My original Tivo hard drive went out after two years and I ordered a bigger replacement from PTVupgrade. The installation was just as easy as stated on the web site. However, after only about 30 days the new hard drive went out. I sent in a service request to the staff and they delivered a new hard drive within 1 or 2 days. I put in the new one and it has been working perfectly for over one year now. The no-hassle service was a dream, if only all companies could be so great!

I did my own upgrade on my first TiVo using 9th Tee products; however, it was a pain so I decided to use PTVUpgrade which was recommended by both 9th Tee and tivofaq.com. I was their first DirecTV TiVo Series 2 customer, so admittedly I was a little nervous. Lou at PTVUpgrade kept me updated throughout the process (which included some R&D time being that I was the first one he tried the kit on). I've had this unit for over 8 months now and it works beautifully (which is amazing considering that mine was the FIRST one they did). I have recommeded PTVUpgrade to all my TiVo friends and I can't say enough what a pleasure it was to have these pros do all the hard work for me. Thanks again PTVUpgrade!

Lou is awesome. This is return business - I had him upgrade the first TiVo I had (which is still in service), and a couple of months later I had some problems. At first we thought it was just a software glitch, but after sending the unit back and forth a couple of times it became clear one of the drives was failing. Anyway, Lou replaced the drives at no additional cost (I paid shipping to him, he paid shipping to me), under warrantee. I was *very* pleasantly surprise, and though I could have done this upgrade myself his warantee is well worth the cost of the service. I highly, highly recommend PTVUpgrade.com.

Purchase went smoothly, product showed up and was easy to install. Product even included necessary torx screw driver. Very easy, very convenient. It just worked. I did have one problem, but it was a known problem that wasn't the fault of PTVupgrade. It was listed on their support page along with a workaround. I emailed support before checking the support page. Support returned my email very quickly (same day) which was reassuring because life without a TiVo is well...it's rough. Get one, you'll understand.

The service i recieved was top rate. to date i have had 10 of my tivo boxes upgraded by ptvupgrade. i could not be more pleased with the quality of service and turn around time. best of all when ever i have a problem i call ptvupgrade and they help me diganose the cause. PTVUPGRADE is #1 at my house. only they will tuch my tivo units from this day forth.

Tivo Hardrive upgrades were better than advertised. Had problem with defective hardrive 6 months after purchase, PVT replaced both drives at no cost.. A+ customer service. Phone support puts you in contact with Lou who is the best.. Thanks Lou

The only thing that was faster than the service was the easy DYI installation of the 114 hour upgrade kit. Everything was considered, including the tool to open the box. I can't believe how many programs that can be recorded without erasing old programs to make room. TIVO should have come from the factory with this much storage!

Excellent service with a very fast turnaround. I decided on Monday that I wanted to expand the recording capacity of my Tivo. I needed it back on Friday to start recording. I spoke to Lou on Monday, figured out what I needed to do and shipped them ny Tivo. They updgraded the capacity and I had it back on Friday, ready to record.

I was 100% pleased with this purchase, and then some. The install was a snap, if you can use a screwdriver you can do this one yourself. The folks at PTVupgrade were a pleasure to deal with, the unit arrived well packed and very quickly. All was a promised. I did the upgrade(add-on drive), Tivo works as advertised, now I've got a ton of extra room. I challenge the teenagers to fill up Tivo now! I highly recommend DVRupgrade as a satisfied customer.
