Acknowledgements: Much of the knowledge and detailed info on some of this is due to this wonderful thread (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51032) at dealdatabase which documents and consolidates a good bit of the useful information related to this functionality. Those of you who own the HR10-250 know what a great platform it is. Up until about a year ago, the version of software on these units was 3.1.5f, and it lacked much of the functionality and speed that 6.2 for the older Series2 DirecTiVo models had. In fact, there was a focused effort on getting 6.2 running on the HR10-250 units, but that never really turned into anything useful.
Within the past year, 6.3 was finally released. The main benefit being the folders functionality and a significant speed increase when interacting with the menu system. Unfortunately, there have been a variety of bugs introduced; over time, many of them have been fixed, and now we are at release 6.3d and the system seems to have stabilized.
The best news about 6.3 for enthusiasts is that HMO/HME capabilities are now embedded into the code. Unfortunately though, MRV will not work.
And with all of that said, enabling HMO and HME on a PTVnet configured system is as easy as can be. It requires only a few simple patches to tivoapp and these can either be done manually by using telnet (or a serial cable with bash access) to access your system, or it can be automated by using a simple script we've provided. Please use one of the two methods documented below to enable HMO/HME on your HR10-250.
For units with 6.3d:

For units with 6.3e (I have not tested this):

Additional instructions and links for HMO
To utilize the Music & Photos feature of HMO, you'll need to install the TiVo Desktop on your PC. You will need to use version 2.3a or earlier, because the newest version (2.4) will not work with the DirecTiVo at all.
There are variety of earlier versions of TiVo Desktop floating around on the net, but you can download version 2.3a from here (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/forums/../software/hmo/TD-2.3a.exe).
When you install the TiVo Desktop, you will be asked for a Media Access Key, simply ignore that question if you do not have one (ie leave it blank).
When you start the TiVo Desktop, you may need to configure you may receive a Windows XP security warning, or if you are running another personal firewall application, you'll need to set your permissions to allow your TiVo to talk to your PC; as you explore in the TiVo Desktop, you'll see that there are a variety of ways to verify that you can "see" the TiVo systems on your network and that they can "see" the TiVo server running on your desktop.
Moving forward, its simply a matter of picking the Photos & Music you want to share with your TiVo.
Note that content transfers (TiVoToGo) will not work with these modified units and the TiVo Desktop; the capability to extract videos from your DirecTiVo is not within the scope of this article.
