Can you run PTVnet without Instantcake? If so will it leave your shows unchanged? Our Tivos are receiving 6.3e which is wiping out the Instantcake 6.2a so can we simply install PTVnet to restore the network? thanks

PTVnet does not (and has never) require the use of InstantCake. It is designed to be installed on a drive that has already been upgraded (either using InstantCake, or from 'scratch' with MFStools. Full details are available in the article I wrote here (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7).

With that said, PTVnet is designed so that it can be used in conjunction with InstantCake, if desired.

And lastly, those who have used PTVnet, should not just be getting wiped out by the 6.3 upgrade unless you are allowing, or forcing, the upgrade (by DEFAULT, PTVnet kits suppress the autoupgrade, and the DIY software utility asks you about setting the autoupdate flag on or off with the appropriate warnings.

One way to update from a PTVnet 6.2a system is to use The Slicer (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6)...

Another way, is as you suggest, to use the 6.2 PTVnet distribution, but as I've mentioned, you will need to use the "force" option. I have tested it once and it seems to work, but I can make no guarantees.

As many times as I've suggested people try it, noone really seems to report back with much info, so if you try it and are successful, please document and post it if you can...

The Upgrade flag is on the HD PTVnet CD but is not on the SDversion of same. How do you turn UPgrade flag on and off? Also there is a flag called IC2. It is turned on by the software with no explaination as to what it does. I only have the SD version not the HD version.

With the SD version, you should answer "NO" to the question asking whether you want the DAILY CALL turned on or off. If it is currently ON on your unit, then you can change its status by typing:

flag_swap CALL
from the bash prompt after telnetting into the unit.

Alternatively you can do this:

rootwrite
mv /init/ptv_flags/CALL_ON /init/ptv_flags/CALL_OFF

if you've already verified that the CALL flag is set for on. Also note that you'll need to reset the NETWORK_CALL flag if you've set that to ON. Some people set up their units for making daily call over the network, and that will also result in the unit upgrading if there is a new release.

The IC2 flag is used by the startup scripts and not something you should mess with; please just leave that alone.

I currently have the daily call flag on. So should I turn it off. The wording has changed to disabling the daily call which I have said no to disable. Thank you for your reply.

You should turn it OFF. Answering YES to all questions will get you where you want to be. Or should I say, where WE want you to be...
