I am planning to upgrade two series 2 TiVo's with 1TB drives and would like to know which specific drives people have success with. I tried a WD10EADS and it didn't work, only to read only later that no one has been able to get them to work. I have tried ordering a WD10EVCS, WD10EVDS and WD10EVVS here in Canada and either they're out of stock or no one carries them.
I'm looking for low power models (ie: Green, 5400rpm, etc...) that anyone is currently using with success. I already have to IDE-SATA adapters that are tested and working.
I would very much appreciate any replies or a list with 1TB drive models that work. Thanks.

Hmm, I didn't know that the DT Series 2 units would support a 1TB drive ? I just did ours with a 500gb Drive from Western Digital, the Caviar Blue, seems to be working great so far. I think it runs pretty quiet (it is in our room), but I'm not sure about how much power it may be using. I thought it would be better to go with a faster drive and one with a larger cache but I guess that does not matter much? There was WD in there so I figured the new Caviar Series would be the way to go.
I work in the security industry and we use them on board our CCTV DVR's, they are rock solid as are the Seagate Barracudas but as I said, there was WD in the Tivo so I figured I'd stick with that.

Yes that is the perfect drive for TiVo DT Series 2. I think 500GB is the biggest PATA that anyone makes now though, so you can also use 1TB SATA drives with a IDE to SATA adapter. I believe 1TB is the limit for a single TiVo drive because of the Linux kernel used with TiVo system. I noticed on some site someone used two (2) 1TB drives for a 2TB total size.
So far I have tested two (2) different Seagate models with perfect success.
ST31000528AS Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA2 8.5MS 7200RPM 32MB Cache
ST31000520AS Seagate Barracuda LP 1TB SATA 32MB Cache
The first drive is a standard 1TB 7200 drive and the second one (LP) is a 5900rpm low-power drive that is perfect for TiVo's. The regular price on either of these drives is usually less than $90cdn. I paid $81cdn for the 7200 and $68cdn for the LP.
**NOTE**
I've heard that a lot of different IDE to SATA adapters do not work so I saved myself any of the headaches and bought mine from DVR site because it is what they use, tested and guaranteed to work with TiVo.

Faster drives and larger caches don't make any difference at all when upgrading any TiVo unit.
1TB drives work fine in these units (we've offered kits for them for quite some time) when used with a compatible adapter (these come standard with our 1TB kits).
Largest PATA drive manufactured was 750GB; they are not so easy to find, these days.

Perhaps you could enlighten us as to the specific brand and model of those adapters and where you got them, as I understand some of them work in some TiVos and not others, and some of them don't work in any.
Also, are they the type that plug onto the back of the SATA drive and provide a place for the 40 pin ribbon cable, or the type that plug into the motherboard 40 pin header and provide a place to attach one or perhaps two SATA cables?
Thanks in advance for an imformative reply.
