bash is the 'shell' which runs on the linux portion of the TiVo OS. You can get one on your serial port by using a serial cable and making modifications to the software on your unit to turn it on. If you have a networking option (TurboNet or CacheCard) installed in your TiVo, you can also get the bash prompt through your network using 'telnet'

If none of this makes sense to you, its probably not something you want to do. But if you need a bash prompt, I'd consider getting a replacement drive kit, a serial cable, and maybe considering one of the networking bundles on our site.

kinda was a facetious question.. bought the instantcake download (both the twp and the normal ) so I could get my external modem to work..kinda frustrated that I have to do it this way ..but c'est la vie!
