Have an orignal Phillips 312.. Hard drive got intermittent and purchased Instant Cake.. Software seems to work perfect.. Used a 160 GB drive (new from Tiger Direct PATA). Gooes through fine and says the drive has a capacity of 174 hours. I assume that this is from verification with the instant cake software..

The unit is now stuck at the "wait a moment" screen..

I tried putting it in another Series 1 that had the "Green Screen of Death" and it also hangs at the startup screen...

How can I tell if the problem is the drive or something else?

The drive should be plug and play, correct?

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated..

You should definitely run diagnostics on both of your drives (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=416062) to ensure they are not part of the problem - it is possible you could have something wrong with your TiVo unit, as well...
