I just installed the 250GB hard drive kit from DVRupgrade for my Samsung Sir-S4080R and so far so good. I can see my new extra space and that I have 6.2a software version. Now, I have one curious question. In System Information why is it now IDing the unit as Sir-4120R instead of the correct Sir-S4080R?

Thanks
Patrick

They use the same kit for all Samsung models the 40,80 and 120.

I understand they use the same kit, but wouldn't the software recognize the units correct model number? Maybe I used to computer too much, I thought it would just get its information off the board and correctly ID it. So then the software is specific to the unit and this is why you have to use a specific Instantcake version because the software doesn't get its information off the board at all.

I let it connect to the DVR service one time and now I have disconnected the phone line. Hopefully the 6.2a software version stops my reboots. If it does, then I'll get another drive for my Phillips unit because it too is suffering from the daily reboots since the 6.3e software update.

THanks
Patrick

You installed a 250 GB drive so it should be SIR-4250R which Samsung makes no such model so it ignores the Model name. On some drives the software reads the model and serial number of the drive.

The model name information got "goofy" when DirecTV released the 6.2 software. On some units, information that is even more misleading, shows up - for instance, some Philips units show up with Hughes information, and vice versa. I am told it is because there was some information left out of one of the database fields, and as a result, the system does its best to fill in the "correct" information, but sometimes does not do such a good job.

The good news is that it really doesn't matter what the model information says. What IS important is to look at the software revision information. Take notice of the last three digits of the software system number on the system information screen, it should be:

381

Now take first three digits of your service ID, it should be:

381

That is the ONLY thing that matters and as long as those two numbers are the same, it is verification that you are running the correct version of the software on your unit.

Obviously, if you have a different model (for instance, the Hughes HDVR2 would use the number 151) that number is different, but they should be the same as each other.

Are both the last three on the Software build and the Service supposed to be the same. I ask because my Phillips DSR708 downstairs has the lastthree on the Software build at 101, but the service number is 301.

Thanks

its ok the 2's bit has been turned off. Its been that way the last few releases. My RCA is 321 and 121 and I am running 6.3e-01-2-121 that is the way its supposed to be. Check the comparison Chart the only difference is non-RID and RID models

I would guess that your Philips is now running 6.3, not 6.2a? Otherwise, things should be described as above. When things moved to 6.3, a bunch of code got consolidated, so what I said earlier doesn't apply. But as for your Samsung running 6.2a, you are fine.
