instantcake without registering to Tivo

Hello,

I have a Tivo box with formatted Harddrive. I wonder if I can install
instantcake without registering to Tivo. Use it as a regular DVR
-recording TV only. Do not want to use Tivo services (and I do not
want to 'steal' these services/features). Do not mind that the
recording will have commercials, do not mind not to have Tivo other
features.
