I just ordered a 500 GB drive for one of our Series 3 TiVos this week and installed it today. This is a capacity upgrade drive that I ordered here from DVRupgrade, not one I did myself with InstantCake. It is a WD Green drive... I'm not sure the exact model number without opening the box back up, but it started with WD5000.
The drive constantly reboots after "Almost there, just a few more minutes". I have tried the following things to get it to start up:
Took out the CableCards and rebooted several times
Did kickstart code 54 - all S.M.A.R.T. tests passed
Did kickstart code 57 (twice) - despite the green screen saying that it would take up to 3 hours, the TiVo rebooted after about 10-15 minutes both times and went back to the power up/reboot loop
Did kickstart code 58 - after the powering up screen, there was a screen that said "Installing system updates. This will take a few minutes." then it rebooted and went back to the powering up/reboot loop
Is there anything else that I can try to get this TiVo up and running? Is it possible I got a bad drive from DVRupgrade? Going back to the original drive isn't really an option... last week after watching a show that was full of pixelation and stuttering, the TiVo locked up and was never right again after that. It would reboot to the TiVo Central screen, but it would not respond to the remote at all on that screen and the TiVo Guy animation in the upper left corner was all jerky and stuttery, then it would reboot on its own after about 20 minutes of being stuck like that.
