PTVNET + Trendnet TU2-ET1OO = No Luck

I have installed PTVnet with DHCP + telnet enabled on my Samsung DirecTivo Series 2.

I first tried plugging in a Linksys USB300M and my DVR got stuck in the powering up loop:

Grey Powering up screen followed by color Tivo/DVDupgrade screen followed by power cycle and repeat forever...
As soon as I remove the USB adapter, it boots fine.

So I went and bought the Trendnet TU2-ET1OO adapter instead and tried it.

Exact same result.

Any suggestions?

Update to my PTVnet issues:

I plugged in the Trendnet adapter to my second Samsung DirecTivo (which also has InstantCake installed) and got the same result. Powering up screen, Tivo Logo screen, power cycle, repeat forever until I unplug the USB adapter. The led's on the adapter never come one. Once unplugged, everything back to normal.

Perhaps I have a newer version of the Trendnet adapter that PTVnet doesn't have a driver for.

My next step is to get a serial cable and examine log files to diagnose the problem.
However I know nothing about connecting to the box via the serial cable.

Is there a DYI guide somewhere for that procedure?
