FTP with dtivo

I'm having problems ftp'ing into my dtivo. I'm using the internet address that my router assigned to it and I'm getting a connection refused message. Is there a username and password that the pvtnet software assigned to it?

What's the address ?? If it's 192.168.something.something, then that is not an Internet address.

The first thing you need to do is find out what your actual, outside your network address is. Easiest way to do that is to start up a web browser on one of your computers and go to here -> What is my IP? (http://www.whatismyip.com)
That is the address that you need to FTP to when you are outside of your home/network.

Second thing to do is set up port forwarding in your router. You need to forward ports 20 and 21 to the internal IP address (192.168.whatever.whatever) of your Tivo box.

Be aware that if you do this and your Tivo does not have a password on it, anyone that FTP's to your "outside" Internet address will be able to access your Tivo. Think "security risk"! You'll have to put a password on it somehow, or set your router to only accept FTP connections from certain IP addresses (filtering).

It's okey, thanks. I got it working the way you suggested. For now, I'm just starting the port forwarding, doing my ftp session, and then ending it by unchecking it within my router. No biggie...I mean I'm most likely not going to be sitting at a friends house and all of the sudden have this innate desire to ftp into my tivo from there.
