My HDVR2 started pixilating on programs. Then the unit siezed. I assume the hard drive died. I was unable to transfer the TIVO files to a second hard drive. I used instantcake to install a Maxtor Basics ATA/100 drive. Its a 160 gb drive, 7200 rpm with a 8mb Cache. I am still having Pixilation and stuttering audio while watching TV. Is this unit bad, or is the hard drive not compatible for TIVO use?

Found the answer on another forum. Unplugged the Svideo connector and used standard phono plug video connections. Pixalation and frequent screen freezes, reboots are gone. Must be a problem with all HDVR2 machines.

I had a very similar issue with my HDVR2, best I could figure out was that I had one of the two tuners going bad.

This is odd. My HDVR2 a couple of months ago started pixelating as well. I was using the S-Video connection also. I had a friend's machine (Hughes SD-DVR40) that I switched over to today (moved the access card with DirecTV support on the line) and the pixelation isn't present there.
My signal strength was around 90 on the HDVR2.

You describe my problem almost exactly as it happened to me. I too swapped with my neighbor for a SDVR-40, how odd. Anyway it was definitely a tuner on my HDVR2 that went bad, I think they just get old enough stuff starts to die.
