View Full Version : Difficulty with the mount command

I'm scratching my head over this .....

I've installed my upgrade drive into a PC as Primary slave, with my Dos drive as the primary master.

I've booted the MFStoos CD and have a linux shell up.

From there I execute the command

mkdir /mnt/tivo1

which succeeds

Then I attempt to mount my tivo drive using

mount /dev/hdb /mnt/tivo1

but the response I get is:

mount: you must specify the filesystem type

I've tried booting multiple variations including byte swapping, and using only the tivo drive as the primary master, but no luck. I can't get the darn thing mounted. Can anyone make a suggestion as to what's wrong?

Thanks,

John Moses

Here's a bit more info .... the problem does seem byte swap related. I found this in the boot log

hda: Signature 1492, b39214
03:00: block 0 has signature 9214 rather than 1492
Unknown partition table

Still stumped as to how to fix. I'm in debt to anyone who can give me a push.

Thanks,

John

I need to clear up one point. In between my first and second post, I reconfigured. In the second post there was no dos drive. The only disk connected was the tivo disk as hda (primary master).

The problem was found to be between the chair and the keyboard.

(sigh)
