I am a first-time user of IC trying to image a new Western Digital WD10EVDS (AV-GP) 1 TB SATA drive for a failed TiVo HD. I have read many forum discussions and done everything that was recommended:
-updated BIOS to latest version
-using PS-2 keyboard
-disconnected all drives except for boot CD (IDE interface)
-connected new drive, no jumpers, straight out of box to existing and known good SATA cable
-changed BIOS boot device priority settings
-booted with downloaded and unzipped version of IC
While in BIOS it was noted that the CD drive was configured as "Secondary IDE Master" and IC options changed accordingly. Also noted BIOS did not detect new WD drive in "Boot Device Priority" list.
I did not understand one of the IC prompt questions:
"How is primary drive currently configured? Device 1 -->sda; Device 2 -->sdb; etc."
So I used "sda".
After completing all prompts and receiving "Your cake is in the oven", I received message after only 2 seconds:
"Restore: unable to open /dev/sda for writing"
"Your cake is now baked. You should power down..."
Is this normal Instant Cake behavior? I expected the baking process to take a lot longer than 2 seconds. I wish to avoid opening the TiVo box and installing new drive if the bake process failed.
