I purchased InstantCake for my Series 3, and did a 2-drive restore. The second drive is the WD AV Mybook (1 TB) that Tivo actually recommends.
The process went swimmingly. At the end it said it had upgraded both drives and verified the partitions on both drives.
When I connect the drives to my S3, though, during the bootup it says "External Storage Missing."
If I press "Clear" and let it boot without the external drive, all works well (but with only the storage on the internal drive, of course). If I then try to activate the external drive through the Settings menu, the machine reboots without activating the drive. (I understand ... no plug-and play on a modified system.)
In doing the InstantCake process, I tried it first through the WD's USB port, then I tried it again by disassembling the WD external drive and connecting the SATA drive inside directly to the SATA ports on my computer. Both ways gave the same results ... the TiVo can't see the external drive.
