I am trying to upgrade without instantcake....but to no avail! I am frustrated to the point where I am willing to purchase instantcake....but I do not have two spots on my home computer for the ide cables. I have a ide and 2 serial ports. I unerstand that I would not be able to set up my drives in the traditional instantcake manner....can instantcake work for me?

The version of InstantCake for that model, does require that you have two IDE controllers on your PC. So, if your PC only has one, you'd need to either consider purchasing a kit, or you'd have tinker with the InstantCake scripts to change the device names to suit your PC.

Would that be a viable option to use with instantcake?

I have the same problem with a single parallel IDE port.
I have 2 Tivo's that I want to upgrade Tivo 540080 and Humax T800.
Will Instantcake work for these units?
Is there any chance the Instantcake will be upgraded to work on this configuration?
It is becoming more common with PC manufacturers.
Edit:
After further review, the Special Instructions section says that the single IDE configuration can be handled in the advanced options section.

Both of those versions contain the 'advanced' mode which can accommodate a single IDE controller if you've configured things correctly on your PC.

Thanks for the reply, I was just editing my post to say that I had found the advanced options.
