Hi Everyone

Being a newbie to this, I recently purchased and installed a DVRupgrade for my Philips 704 unit. The installation went fast and easy. The networking part was a little bit of a challenge, and I think some of the problems are with my PC. I'm using a new Dell with Windows Vista Ultimate installed. I also have Zonealarm as a software firewall in addition to my Westel router. I purchased the Buffalo ethernet converter, which needed to first be configured. Unfortunately the software you need to set up the converter does not run on Vista. Using my wifes Windows XP SP2 PC I was able to set up the converter. I am also using the D-link DUB-E100 (Version B1) USB-ethernet adapter - which works fine. Now I load the TIVO desktop 2.3A and thats not running under VISTA! I could run it on my wifes XP PC but all the music and pictures are on my Vista PC!

Does anyone have any experience with VISTA and the Tivo Desktop software?

Side question - is there anything available like Tivo2Go?

thanks.

Tivo Desktop 2.5.1 does work fine under Vista as long as you install it as an Administrator.

I have used it to tranfer shows to and from my S3.

However, I don't have your type of box, so I can't tell you whether it will work on your's.

Thanks Bruce I tried installing and running as Administrator but it seems that as soon as I run the Tivo 2.5.1 desktop I get the error box

"Beacon Service Not Running." Cancel - Retry.

I can't seem to get this service to go - any suggestions?

Thanks Mike

On my system, the Beacon Service started on it's own,

The only problem that I can remember is that it's status changed to paused when I had to reboot my S3 or my router.

There is an icon for the Tivo Server in my vista taskbar, I just had to right click the icon to bring up a list of tasks. One of them was "Resume Server".

The problem is with ZoneAlarm Vista and Tivo Desktop.
Uninstalling Zonealarm fixes the problem. I don't know any other solution.

Has anyone been able to get Tivo Destop to run on Vista while Zonealarm is installed?
(I know it works in XP).
