I have a Sony SVR 2000 that I bought used with a network adapter (not sure if it is turbonet or something else). Harddrive on it got hosed, so I got a new hard drive and got instacake and created a new drive. I booted the Tivo and it is asking me to use a phone to setup. I don't have a landline and so I am not able to activate the Tivo. For some reason, when I connect the Tivo to my network (using a ethernet cable) I am not able to see the Tivo on my network (not sure why).

I am a Tivo newbie and so need some help on how I can activate my tivo. Thanks for all your responses.

Well, knowing what type of networking card you have will narrow it down. Why not open your unit up and take a photo and/or ensure its installed properly. Also, troubleshoot your network - maybe its a bad cable or a bad router?

The network adapter has a label that it is Linksys LNE2000T. I am have 3 other machines on the network and they are connecting fine. changed the cable and checked... and it still doesn't do it... Let me know of anything on getting my network adapter working.

Thanks,
Kumar G.

Really not sure exactly what you have going on there, but you'll not be able to use a standard PC networking adapter on a Series1 TiVo; you might be best to consider a TurboNet card (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores/1/accessory_nomodel.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=86) and be done with it.

Also, spend a bit more time reading through some of the things on this page (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores/1/networking_series1.cfm), and you will no longer be a newbie...

do you know how I can circumvent tivo initial setup if I connect the replacement hard drive to my PC and boot with a Tivo Boot Disk.
