usb nic help!

Help! I have a Humax t800 Tivo in which the hard drive crashed. I bought the Instant Cake for this unit and installed it. Everything is ok except I can't connect via a usb network adapter. This worked fine before but I don't even get the light on the adapter anymore. I have a second tivo that works fine on the network and swapped the network adapters just to make sure the problem isn't that simple and it's not. Thank you in advance for your help on this.

InstantCake installs an earlier version of TIVO software which supported only a limited number of USB to LAN adapters. It would not support my version-1 LinkSys adapters, but only the version-2. Go to "SETTINGS" and see what version you now have.
The solution is to reconnect the phone line and dial into TIVO, their current version I think is up to 9.1 (Fall 2007 update) and supports most USB to LAN adapters. It may take two days for them to upgrade your version, but is cheaper that buying the adapter they recommend.
