I understood that instantcake did NOT come with networking support. I was under the impression that I could add it later. So I purchased the instantcake to make sure that would work. At that time I believed that I could then add the networking support later. After reading through some things, it would appear that the ptvnet erases everything and starts over. My question is, does the PTVnet come with 6.2a? Is my ADHD preventing me from seeing the true path? Did I do right by getting the instant cake first? It is installed and running, although I am missing some moving channels, I am hoping those will be corrected by morning.

You might want to review this article (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7), as the very first paragraph directly answers your question.
Short answer is that PTVnet will not erase your existing content and it is designed to be used on an existing drive prepared with MFStools (or InstantCake), OR it can be used in conjunction with InstantCake to create a new drive.
