Does the InstantCake software support the USB ports for this unit? I tried setting this up in mine and it looks like it will only use the phone jack, which isn't an option for me since I'm using Vonage.

Also, will I still be able to use the free Tivo Basic service, it was looking like I was going to have to subscribe, when I've been using this free service since I've started using this unit.

If anyone has experienced this or has any solutions please let me know, I'm running low on my options to revive my Tivo!

InstantCake is designed to help you build a larger drive for your TiVo, plain and simple.

As it happens, USB ports on your SD-H400 are activated as a function of the TiVo software that is released for your unit, so a drive built using InstantCake for your unit will enable the USB ports, as well.

So just to be clear, use of the USB ports on your unit is a function of the TiVo OS, not InstantCake...

So InstantCake is not a version of the OS, I guess I was confused there?

Even though the USB ports should be working do I still need to make the initial connection via a phone line? With the last time I tried it the USB was not responding at all. I'm going to give this another shot tonight with the latest hard drive I got.

Also, if that's the case with the software would I still be able to use the Tivo Basic service?

You might; it depends on the version of the software and whether it supports the particular USB adapter you are using. Please see the release notes for more information on software versions.

We make no changes to the TiVo software. If you were able to use TiVo basic with the unit then you should still be able to do so.

Again, InstantCake is a tool for building a larger hard drive, not changing the functionality of your TiVo.

OK, I'm back up and running again. But I'm still having issues connecting via the network. I'm using the Linksys USB200M adapter so i don't know if it's something with that or what. It had been working before but it's not responding at all now.

Just wanted to update. I've since gotten the network connection working again so all is well in Tivoland.

I replaced the Linksys USB200M (http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-USB200M-EtherFast-Network-Adapter/dp/B000085ZKV/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-0511141-2182316?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1187737080&sr=1-1) with a Belkin F5D5050 (http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F5D5050-Networking-Ethernet-Adaptor/dp/B000062R4P) and that seems to be working just fine. I was never crazy about the design of the linksys one anyway, the cheap plastic that holds the cable in place would never really hold it.

Thanks for the help!
