Well, don't know why I'm getting this problem...

I've done this numerous times before without any problems. I've connected a 200GB drive to a PC, removed the jumpers on the drive, and inserted Instantcake 6.2a. When the system boots and Instantcake tries to run, it errors out telling me it couldn't detect a hard drive. My CD-ROM is hdb, so I've tried the hard drive at hdd, hdc, and hda--no luck.

The cables seem to be connected properly, so I don't think that's the issue. Considering I've done many a drive with Instantcake, including this particular drive--I'm reimaging it from 6.2 to 6.2a--I can't figure out why all of a sudden I can't get my PC via Instantcake to even detect the drive.

Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? The jumper should be on master with the drive on master HDC. After Instantcake you can remove the jumper and run cable select if you desire.

IIRC, my CD-ROM is set to Primary Master, with the hard drive set to secondary slave. I've done it that way dozens of times with never a problem. Now it seems I've got to reconfigure everything to make it work this time? That doesn't make sense. After all, I didn't change anything.

Now I've got to try and remember how to change my CD drive to Primary Slave and the HD to Secondary Master. Any suggestions?

Well, it looks like the problem isn't the connection(s); rather, the drive is f'd up. I tried out a different drive for the heck of it, used the same slave/master settings I've always used, and voila! That worked fine. The thing that ticks me off is that the drive I originally used was brand, spanking new. It's been sitting in a new HDVR2, unused, for 9 months. I just wanted to update its image to 6.2a and zipper it, only to find out the drive's bad.
