View Full Version : Retrieve data file?

I was so excited that I finally got InstantCake to work (using a friend's Pentium II, Win98 machine) that I got a little overzealous running it on various hard drives which I thought were no longer needed for anything else. As my luck would have it, there MIGHT be a data file I need to retrieve off one of the drives (the InstantCaked-drive has not been installed in a TiVO machine yet; i.e., it has not been used since it was InstantCaked).

Is there a way to retrieve the file IF it's needed? I have a couple of data recovery programs available to me to try if necessary.

Any help or advice would be sincerely appreciated.

Once InstantCake is run successfully on a hard drive, but the hard drive not used afterwards, can the cake be undone so that whatever was on the hard drive prior to being baked would be accessible again?

I ran InstantCake on an old hard drive that I thought was not needed, then found out it was. It had Win98 on it, if that is of any relevence.

Any help would be appreciated.

No... Once you've used InstantCake on a drive, whatever was there previously has been overwritten...
