I just purchased a replacement Philips 704 directv tivo for one that died. It works fine, and has Version 3.1 of the software on it. I have also purchased Instant Cake for it. My questions are
1. I have read on this forum that using instantcake on the stock HD from the Dtv Tivo sometimes does not work. Is this correct? I am looking to upgrade my software version from the old 3.1 to the 6.2 of instantcake, and as I have a HD that works fine, I would of course like to use it if possible.
2. I did an instantcake upgrade on an other Dtv tivo series 2 that I had, and after the upgrade was installed with no problems from my computer, and the HD was back in the tivo, it was doing its setup, and it lost power. After doing testing, I found that the power supply on the tivo had died.
My question with this is did I do it right? I did the upgrade, I put the HD back in to the tivo, and plugged the ribbon cable and power back in. HD was set at master. Then I plugged the tivo in, and turned tv on. the tivo started its setup, and I honestly can't remember what it was saying on the screen, and then all of a sudden I had no power beyond where the power comes into the unit.
was it just a fluke that the power supply died, or did I do something that I wasn't supposed to? Oh, and I grounded my hand before I touched anything on the inside of teh tivo.
Thanks!
