I'm in the middle of working on a couple of Series 2 DirecTivos... I know you need a dedicated version of InstantCake for each model, which makes sense. What I don't see is a specific statement as to whether or not you need a specific config of PTVnet for each model, or if one current PTVnet will work for all models listed in its given compatibility list?

Specifics: I InstantCaked and PTVnetted an SD-DVR40 with ISOs I bought last week. I also have a Philips Series 2 that I'm not going to change the disc on, just PTVnet, and would like to use the same PTVnet ISO if I can.

Thanks!

Actually, I answered that very same question just a few days ago (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322)...

That answers the question were I asking it about InstantCake, but not PTVNet... that much I know. You do mention that PTVNet is a single user license, and since I will not be allowing anyone else to use this ISO, that should be valid if I do 1 or 5 units. I've been dealing with enterprise software licenses for years - the only way I'd have to buy another ISO to do a second unit would be if a license is tied to a machine (generally tied by CPU, so that a given system can be repaired with the same license should the drive die), rather than a user, in licensing terms. Of course, there is no for you to enforce a CPU based license without knowing the machine serial ahead of time and then somehow baking that into the ISO.

On another note, these tools are fantastic, as this is the second unit I've brought back to life with InstantCake (one of them twice - it ate two primary drives) and it makes an arduous process into a very simple one. Major kudos.

"Technically, PTVnet is a single-user license, but there is nothing to stop you from using it on multiple systems..."

I really can't think of a more straightforward way to put it. Another way would be:

"We want you to purchase one copy for each you unit you upgraded, but you don't have to."

To be fair, that could easily mean either "multiple systems of the same model like InstantCake" or "multiple systems of differing models within the stated compatibility list".
