Is it possible to have 2 units on the network with one not activated? The tuners are going out on one of them so I want to network both units but only have one subscribed for recording. If this works, I should be able to watch a show recoded from the active one on the unit that has the broken tuners?
Thanks.

I have ordered the PTVnet software and only one network connection. I figure I'll start with that, make sure it works, and then I'll order the second network connection. I can let you know what I come up with.

I recently saw a discussion at TiVoCommunity (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/forums/www.tivocommunity.com) where someone used MRV between a subscribed unit and an unsubscribed unit that was not connected to a satellite feed. I think he was getting "searching for satellite" errors when he was NOT playing back any videos, but my recollection is that MRV worked fine.

Please do update this thread with any information you gather or experience you get, this is not something we've seen or tried.

I just used PTVNet 6.3 and InstantCake 6.3e to upgrade the hard drive on an HR10-250. I now have no network access at all whereas before I did (with PTVNet6.3 and InstantCake 6.3b). I've seen several others raise this issue in the past year but no resolution. I just downloaded the InstantCake ISO but the PTVNet came on a CD which I purchased some months ago, The Trend USB adapter shows power but not data flow and it's not showing up on my DHCP server.

Problem solved. Apparently the version of PTVNet 6.3 (which I purchased early in 2007) was the source of the problem. I purchased and downloaded PTVNet 6.3 again last night and everything worked. I now have network access.

Doesn't matter if the box is sub'd or not. If it's running 4.x or 6.2x and has been superpatched, it'll work fine.
