Ok, I never thought I would be the NooB starting a thread that I'm sure has been started before. I am for the most part tech savvy but networking has always escaped me. I apologize in advance for the asking what most likely could be found by seraching more extensively but this site loads very slowly and navigates even slower on my system, so I looked for awhile and only had only minimal success. So I'll try and keep it short:
I have an HR10-250 running 6.3c. It is supposed to have been upgraded with PTVNet (when I reboot the system I see "DVRUpgrade" on the opening splash screen) but beyond that I am speculating. The USB ports are also supposed to be active.
I have a USB Ethernet cable plugged in and a DWL-G820 attached. I also have a Linksys WRTSL54GS router that it should be connnected to (at least I configured the G820 to be).
I cannot find the DVR on my network. In fact, I honestly don't know where on the router to look to see if it is or isn't connected or what it's IP address is. I thought installing Tivo Desktop would provide the interface but while it indiactes that a DVR is present, I can't seem to access it.
On the unit itself, I see none of the advanced options that I would associate with an "upgraded" HR10-250 such as network settings, which probably further defines my total lack of understanding of this process.
So, can anyone point me towards or maybe provide a good step by step that would take someone with a very minimal understandng to a network accessible HR10-250? Thanks again in advance and to those who are ready to flame me, I can't argue that I don't deserve at least a portion of it. If this forum navigated as fast as the one over at xda-developers (pda phone forum), this thread wouldn't even exist.
Thanks again!

The DWL-G820 is not on the list of adapters we recommend for use with PTVnet, so that could be the problem.
Question: How is it that you are not certain of what is installed on your unit? Did you not purchase the upgrade kit or software from DVRupgrade? If not, then who did you purchase it from? If the latter, you may want to ask them to ensure you know what you've got - that is always the best starting point when trying to solve a problem.

it was a resale from eBay, and it assured me that all PTVNet was installed on the unit and he had the usb ports working. I have no reason to belive he was not being truthful, but without knowing what to look for to know if it was or was not done, I can't verify. I cannot vouch that the individual used this only for his personal use (he did not send me the disks asscoiated with the upgrade) but it wasn't a "store" and it was an individual.
As for the G820, I specifically purchased this because I saw that DVRUpgrade recommend it (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores/1/accessory_nomodel.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=342).

Unfortunately, he violated our license agreement by reselling you the unit with our software on it. He really should be the one supporting you here, so you may want to contact him, as well.
In any case, the product you are using is a BRIDGE. What are you using for your USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter?

I actually don't. I suspect it was a generic one, but I really can't remember. I'll check. (and appreciate what assistence you have offered so far).
As for support from the seller, he directed me here so I guess I'm SOL for support. :( I suspect I could just purchase the software, but that would take me down the road of actually taking apart my Tivo which, although I could careless about any warranty issues, not really wanting to do. And I did pay a premium for the unit having this already installed so I'd be hit double. Regardless, I want to have a networked Tivo, so I'll do what it takes . . .

Chances are that you are not using a compatible USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter; that is my guess.
As for the EBAY reseller, all of these guys are creeps. Please give him a negative feedback rating. Also, please PM me with his ID so we can keep an eye on him. Chances are he is making money off of what we have licensed and developed and then referring his customers to us for support. That is doubly unfair.
