I building a new disk for my Samsung 4120 using InstantCake and PTVnet. One question -- on the USB network adapter -- I plan to use a Trendnet TU2-ET100 for the long term, but don't have it on hand yet. But I do have a Linksys USB200M on hand. Is there any problem using one USB adapater, and then switching to a different one on the same Tivo unit? I'm guessing not, but would like to confirm...

Thanks in advance
Michael

It may work, or it may not; it has to be either a v1 or v2 adapter. Best way to find out is to try it; just don't be surprised if it doesn't work.

Just as a follow-up -- my Linksys USB200M is V2.1 (on the label) and it works just fine.

Is it necessary to install the USB 2.0 drivers in the DVR upgrade process for the Trendnet TU2-ET100 to be activated? I have currently installed Instantcake and DVR upgrade for my DSR704 and the USB lights are dead with no flashing on my router.

I think you mean "PTVnet" (not "DVR upgrade" -- if so - yes, you need to answer YES to the question about USB 2.0 when using PTVnet for that adapter to work (that is the same one we sell and we have tested it to work with PTVnet).

Thanks - I re-installed PTVnet with USB 2.0 set to Yes and it works like a charm.
