Getting Tivo Started without subscription

Wondering if anyone out there could guide me on how to use my Tivo without a subscription. I can't seem to get past the beginning wizard that keeps asking me to
dial in using my telephone line. I recently purchased a Tivo over Ebay that didn't have a
hard drive. I installed the Instant Cake software on both hard drives.
