ok my hdd on my DTV DVR80 got the GSOD, now if there are some corruptions, it didn't repair itself, can i use instantcake to just delete and reinstall the OS, will that work also i had already used my instantcake on another hdd that iam using now, i just want to use that for my dad's dvr40, will it work, thanks.

Instant Cake reformats the disk hence it will not work. :(

Guys, I think you have some misconceptions about what InstantCake is intended to do...
InstantCake is designed to take a blank drive and turn it into one which can be used in your TiVo; nothing more, nothing less.
If you attempt to use a drive that has been previously used, it will overwrite it and just treat it like it was a blank drive in the first place.
It doesn't reformat the drive, nor does it attempt to fix any problems which might exist with the drive.
A warning to the original poster... from the sounds of it, you may have a defective drive on your hands - try running the manufacturer's diagnostics on it to be sure.
And to Richard, InstantCake does not reformat the disk - but it will erase what is on it. It does work - but perhaps your definition of "work" is different. We say it works because it does what it is designed to do... If you had a problem with it, though please let us know with a new post, or in the official discussion thread and someone will try to help you out. Thx
