As mentioned in a few threads, I'm going to attempt to upgrade my DrecTV DVRs to larger disks and networking. (Still gathering pieces and info!) I've decided on the InstantCake and PTVnet approach and have them on order, but have been also "reading" lots of stuff on how to do all this and what to use to do it. One of the programs I came across offered by [edit: removed by moderator] in Canada has a feature that I haven't seen offered (or even discussed) elsewhere. It says it will increase the live program record time from 30 minutes to 60 minutes. That sounds like a great feature and something I've thought about since hearing that the new D* units will record 90 minutes. Is it possible to add this feature to an InstantCake upgraded disk for 60 minute (or longer) recording time?

Any of the upgraded DVR's will record any length program you wish, limited only by the size of their hard disk drive(s).
Any of the 30min vs 60min discussions, would be referring to the live buffer size.
i.e. With a 30min buffer, you could pause a program that you are watching live up to 30 minutes before you would need to start continuing to watch it again or you would lost some of the program.

I'm going to have to block references and links to the person you've mentioned here. This person has been violating our proprietary rights for years by offering products and services based upon a technology we licensed exclusively and paid a good deal of money to do. He has taken money out of our pockets and hurt the community as a whole by not honoring the rights and wishes of those who have contributed.

PS I'm going to close this thread; if you want to rephrase the questions and post in the DIY Software Discussions (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6) area, we can address them there. Thx.
