I have a Samsung SIR-S4120R DirecTV Tivo new hard drive 120gig and instantcake install 2 weeks ago. All was fine then slowly the remote control became sluggish now to a point where it take minimum 5 sec for a command to take - some times not at all. I have 2 brand new remotes both the same problem. The front panel controls respond quickily without any delay. Occasionally I can get a flow of commands (guide and scroll down) then to sudden come to a screaching halt. Help !! Seams to be some kind of sofware bog with the IR receiver. What gives..???
SIR-S4120R DirecTV Tivo
120gig WD
6.2a with instantcake

The front panel of the TiVo consists of switches and a Photo-detector, no chips, connected to the motherboard by a parallel cable. It does not go bad. The problem is in your remote or in your motherboard. For $100.00 you can get the motherboard fixed at http://www.ccscorporation.net/dss.htm or for $10.00 you can buy a remote from Ebay (make sure it has the same number and type of buttons) or $49.00 will get you a new Glo in the dark premium remote here. http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores/1/accessory_nomodel.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=639
The choice is yours. :)

Before you do anything else, try putting new batteries in your remote(s).
Even new ones can have batteries with a low charge if they have sat long enough in someone's warehouse after packaging.
Also, try rebooting your DVR.

Another thing to check is to ensure that there isn't something blocking the IR sensor on the front panel of the unit and that when you reassembled your unit, you didn't do anything internally that might have inhibited the use of the IR sensor. Try powering off your unit and check the white cable in the front of the unit; if it is not all the way in, it can cause problems (and also possibly fry your TiVo).
Also, check to ensure there is not another remote somewhere underneath a cushion or a book that may be sending out spurious requests. I've heard of sensors being "overflowed" by noise/signals from other remotes because your system is still aware of those signals, it just needs to ignore them...
