it is sputtering on play back , even on live TV. Will replacing the hard drive fix this? Shall I replace the fan or anything else as well? what is a network recertification?

The most common cause of a failure in any unit is a failing hard drive. Its likely that replacing the hard drive in your unit will solve your problem, but we can't guarantee it unless you send the unit for a professional installation and we check it out ourselves.

As for the network recertification, that is where you send us a unit that has already been upgraded and we add a network card to it (TurboNet or CacheCard) and also install the appropriate software on the unit; in your case, this wouldn't be applicable.

What I'd recommend you do is either consider a new replacment drive kit which is likely to solve your problem. OR, consider a Networking Bundle which can also be ordered as a kit and self-installed in your unit.

As another alternative, order a BRONZE installation along with your kit and send us your unit. We'll confirm whether or not the problem is your hard drive, and if its not, we may be able to make some other recommendations. Chances are, its the drive; we'll clean up the unit, install the kit and get things on their way back to you within a day or two of receiving it.
