Hi All, I have looked through the related threads and done a lot of research otherwise and don't see something that applies.
I have an RCA DirecTivo 40gb that i upgraded using the instantcake piece. Worked like a champ. I don't know what happened but i think an upgrade took place that knocked out the hack.
I have got the right tivo serial cable and a null modem adapter, got my gtkterm configured right, I can see the text all scrolling when the tivo is booting etc, but i never can get to a point where i can get a bash prompt.
I read from Weethet that I should hit enter right away and that it's picky so i need to hit Enter only ONCE and right when it's showing it's first "glimpse of life" and i should get a password prompt where i type "factory" but that doesn't work after a million (ok gazillion) tries. I know what was for a different unit so it might not be the same for mine.
I also read that I should go to a bash prompt on my linux box that's connected to it and do:
bash -login < /dev/ttyS0 >& /dev/ttyS0 &
Nothing in my terminal emulator (gtkterm) nor the normal linux terminal window.
I've literally been searching around for weeks and trying as much as I can find around but I'm hitting a brick wall. Please save me I'd really appreciate it.
Best,
Chris
