I have an old series 1 HDR310. It's an original tivo from July 1999, and was originally a 30 hour unit with two 13.6 GB hard drives (Quantum). It has always worked and still works, but I had long ago upgraded it to dual 120 gb drives with a cachecard.
Well it's finally obsolete and the lifetime service it had has been transferred over to a Series 3, so it has no service.
I'm trying to just put it back to original and put the two original 13.6 drives in place and make it operate before getting rid of it. However, using the Instantcake boot disk with everything hooked up correctly, the process fails with an "unknown partition signature" message.
The original drives were erased and have no partition on them at all according to partition master. I think this has something to do with XP writing something to the disks, but I don't have a clue how to fix it. I did some Internet research and tried MakeTivoBootable on it which didn't work. I also tried the newer WinMFS beta and that likewise didn't work. I tried using MFSlive 1.3b to backup the old drives and restore/backup -- but my old PC for this purpose has an AMD K3 processor with VIA chipset and MFSlive won't boot on my old PC.
I'm going to need some real expert advice for this one. Ideally, I'd like to restore it to stock condition and I don't even want the "PTV Upgrade" splash screen on startup. I think it should keep the 3.0 software (the last Series 1 update) as the only change.
Can it be done? Or is this one really, really, a boat anchor?
