Hey there, I cant seem to find a thread to address the specific issue I am having, so here goes:

Bought a used Standalone Series 2, 540080, when powering up it gives you the welcome screen, but when it starts to read the harddrive the drive clicks and it goes to a grey screen. Ran a diag on the drive and it has some bad sectors. So i bought the Instantcake version required and used it on a NIB 80G Western Digital drive I had. Cake says its done and no problems with the bake, but the Tivo wont get past the Welcome screen now (less progress than with the bad drive.

I tried baking three separate drives, one 80G, one 120G, one 320G, all with the same results. Its as if the unit will not see or access the new drives at all..

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
JJ

I have the constant reboot problem and never get to the Tivo Central Screen.

I want to test the HD but Weakness.com says not to do so on a Win XP computer.

I have the Maxtor Diagnostics on a Boot Floppy disk which boots to some old DOS O/S.

Do you think it's safe to test the HD that way??

How did you test your HD ????

Thanks!!!
Alan

I used the bootable Maxtor util, its a free download from their site. Most of the articles and here on DVRUpgrade it says not to put the drive into Windows. MS writes to the drive, and that would mess up the Tivo.

Anyhow, since this posting, and its lack of response, I have given up on my Tivo, gone to Windows Vista Media Center, which doesnt cost me money each month. Guess it wasnt meant to be.
