View Full Version : User specific data transfer?

Having successfully "repaired" one of my DirecTivo units (a Samsung unit) using a new disk drive, InstantCake and PTVnet (very smooth and simple process - thanks!), I'm now interested in enabling MRV on our other DirectTivos. For one of the SD units, it appears that I can do that by purchasing and installing PTVnet and then installing SuperPatch on that one like the first one.

When I did my first unit it was like creating a new DTivo. And initialization was OK on that one, since the disk had gone bad anyway, there was nothing to keep. But the second unit is working fine. And it has a lot of user specific data on it -- e.g., season passes, recorded shows, etc.

Question #1: Is there a way to preserve all of this -- transfering it all to the new disk?

Our other DirectTivo is a HR10-250 running 6.3d. From what I think I've read MRV is not available on this unit.

Question #2: Is that correct -- i.e., MRV is not available on the HR10-250?

Thanks in advance!

On question 1, you'd need to copy the entire drive over to the new one; check out mfslive.org which has a nice interactive guide on how to do this. Be prepared for things to get a bit technical, though - if you are not up for it, InstantCake (or a kit) is your best bet.

On question 2, MRV is not available for the HR10-250. Check out the articles area of the forum for enabling HMO/HME features on the HR10-250.

Ok -- thanks. On question 1 I looked at MFSlive.org, and it seemed pretty manageable to me, but when I went and looked at the SD DTivo, I realized that it is already running 6.3e, which as I understand from other posts, is missing MRV. So it looks like I need to go back and use InstantCake with 6.2 and PTVnet if I want have MRV.

So when it come's to the wife's Season Passes and already recorded shows, it looks like that on the season passes I will simply need to recreate them on the new disk.

And on some of the recorded shows, I'll just have to wait til they are viewed to swap in the new disk, perhaps while recording the new episodes on my other SD DTivo which now has MRV on it. But that leaves me with a few recorded shows on the 6.3e Dtivo that we still want to keep. After building the new disk with InstantCake/PTVnet and applying Superpatch to enable MRV, is there a way that I can at some point transfer the recordings from the 6.3e Dtivo to the new disk, or across the network to the my existing DTivo built from Instantcake/PTVnet & Superpatch -- I suspect there will only be 5-10 of these recordings, so it's not a huge volume.

Thanks in advance!
