View Full Version : Use PTVNet with HDVR2 6.3f

I'm looking for some pointers on what direction to go with my situation:

- Have an older hacked HDVR2 on 6.2 I'm using with Tytool to extract the recordings to my PC.
- Have another Hughes HDVR2 bought from Weaknees with 214 Hr capacity. It recently was automatically upgraded to version 6.3f. (I hadn't hack it yet to prevent the upgrade.)
- I have the version of PTVnet that I used to upgrade the older dvr.
- I have backup copies of 6.2 and I pulled a backup of the 6.3f using Weaknees MFS tools.

I want to retire the older unit (tuner 2 has the problem that is talked about elsewhere) and make the newer unit the one I use to extract the recordings.

Questions:
1. Is there a way to make the needed hacks to the newer 6.3f unit to make it capable of being my source for recordings?
2. I assume that I could go through the full upgrade process and use my 6.2 backup to rebuild the disk. But if I downgrade to 6.2 in this way, is there a way to keep my recordings?
3. Is there some other processes that I should investigate?
4. Are there any plans for the TiVo Gurus to build HDVR2 6.3f versions of the upgrade tools?

Thanks for your replies.

P.S. I saw a thread on TiVo Community Forum that mentioned a 6.4a version. Will that be coming to my HDVR2s? I'd like the features it appears to have.

your answer is in another forum. It is DVRupgrades policy not to comment on future plans.

You may want to consider rebuilding your units with PTVnet and InstantCake 6.2a, that will at least give you network access to your unit and the ability to remotely schedule programming using TiVoWebPlus. The GoToMyDVR client is automatically installed as part of PTVnet, as well, so you'll be able to remotely access your unit from outside of your network relatively easy, as well.

In addition, 6.2a contains additional 'hidden' capabilities, such as the ability to turn on MRV (see the articles area of our site, for more information on that); this code is not included in the DIRECTV release of 6.4.

More info on all of this in the DIY software area of our site, as well as the aforementioned 'articles' area.
