I am working on replacing a dead drive in a Samsung SIR-S4040R Series 2 DirecTV Tivo. I bought the Instant Cake for my Tivo and tried to install it on a Western Digital 160GB hard drive, and the install program did not seem to indicate any problems. However, when I put it in the Tivo, I get stuck on the "Powering Up" page. I borrowed a 120GB drive and went through the same process and the Tivo came back just like I would expect. I believe that my 160GB hard drive is good, it actually is brand new, and I did briefly install Windows on it and have booted it up as a PC drive. So I'm pretty sure the disk is good. I'd prefer to put this 160GB drive in the system rather than the old, used 120GB drive. I only want a single drive in the system and that's all it has ever had.
Any suggestions? I'm ok with using the 160GB drive at the 137GB capacity, but when I ran Instant Cake, it said that it formatted it all the way out. I'm using 6.2a. Any help/suggestions provided would be useful! Thanks!!

This problem has nothing to do with the 137GB limitation.
The first thing you should do is run diagnostics on your 160GB drive and ensure that it is not defective. I'd also examine the IDE cable you are using, and consider replacing that.

I formatted the drive under Windows XP and ran some disk scans and was unable to find anything. Then I reformatted it using Instant Cake, replaced the IDE cable and retried it and still had the same problem. Then I figured it out!
I am using a Western Digital Caviar SE drive which had the jumper set to Master like I would expect. It turns out that for this drive the absence of the jumper also indicates a Master or Single drive. When I took out the jumper and retried it, then it started working just fine. It seems that the other "Master" mode was incompatible with this system for some reason.
Anyway, thanks for creating this Instant Cake program and for your input!
