I just purchased the Instacake for my R10.
When I put the CD in and boot (Yes I followed EVERY INSTRUCTION), I get an error:
Restore Failed: Decompression error .7%) (85.92% compression)
The 80 gig drive is a brand new Seagate DB35 Hard drive.
The system I'm using is a P4 2.20 Ghz, 512Meg Memory
The BIOS recognizes the CD ROM correctly & boots no problem.
CD-ROM Primary Slave (Primary Slave empty)
Hard Drive Secondary Master (Secondary Slave empty)
I pulled it from the system I'm using to burn with & put it into my regular pc, (Dual core P4 3.4Ghz 4 Gig memory) ran the seagate surface diagnostics/format & it passed. (i HAD TO USE A ide TO sata CONVERTER).
Any Ideas?
I have tried 4 80 gig drives. A Western Digital WD800 (Pulled from a Philips DSR708),
a Seagate DB35 80 gig drive and 2 Maxtor 80 gig drives. Except for the DSR708 drive they were all new still sealed drives. I'd try it in my regular system, but my motherboard is all SATA, not IDE.

Could be a bad burn; no need to download again, just try re-burning your ISO at a slower speed and/or with a different brand of CD media.
Could be an issue with your CD-ROM drive; if you have another try that.
Could be an issue with your PC; if you have a different one to try, then try that.
Its definitely one or some combination of those reasons, as others have mentioned this here and there on these forums. (search for "decrompression errors" and you'll see a few).

OK, I re-downloaded ISO, re-burned @ only 8X speed, Replaced CD-ROM drive, removed every card in the PC (Just case, motherboard, power supply, 1 CD ROM Drive, 1 Hard Drive).
Retried the Restore process. (Selected "Verify Written Data" during burn).
Still failed.

You definitely did not need to redownload or remove any other peripheral cards.
Rule out the other variables I mentioned and you will have found the problem!

Tried another CD media type (Sony) ($ 40.00 50 pack)
Tried another computer (AMD System) (Borrowed from neighbor)
Tried another (Brand new) Cd-Rom drive ( $ 80.00 Sony)
The system is still just Case, Motherboard, Power Supply, 1 CD Drive & 1 Hard Drive
Still fails with same error (tried 5 different hard drives)
I even re-downloaded @ my neighbors house & burned it @ 4X on his anchient P4 (423 pin)
system. Still same error.
I'm out of ideas & this is getting R-E-A-L expensive.

On the primary IDE channel blue connector on the motherboard are you leaving the primary master drive attached to the end connector(black). This drive being attached terminates the cable. Each cable must be terminated or the results will be undetermined. Instantcake will ignore the primary master drive on the primary IDE channel and boot from the secondary CDrom device if told to do so in the bios. Good Luck, Hope this helps.:D

Hi Lou, I am having similar problem here and had tried almost everything, please help!
I purchased 3 software products (download version of InstantCakeHD 6.3f, PTVnetHD 6.3x and LBA48) for HR10-250. The last two worked great, however I got problem with the InstantCakeHD 6.3f, it always error out right away when running below command and I suspect due to a corrupted 000001 image.
#/mfstools-2.0/mfstool restore -x -r4 -s127 -zi /cdrom/.images/000001
(It error out immediately, didn't start any decompression)
#Restore failure: Decompression error
I had followed all the instructions exactly and downloaded software three times burned more than two dozens CD with different media, speeds, different burning software, and tried with brand new 300GB hard drive (tested) as well as original 250GB drive. I also search the forums extensively but couldn’t find a solution.
The only thing I haven't tried is different PC (currently using a very old eTower 300K - AMD K6 CPU), but I can see the uncompression of linux kernel works fine, may be they are using different decompression utility?
Very appreciate any hints!
Frank

Hint: Follow my advice, your PC is most likely the issue at this point.
Could be an issue with your PC; if you have a different one to try, then try that.

I'm having the same problem and have tried two different computers, two different CD drives, three different hard drives, and over a dozen different cd's all burned at 4x. Clearly the problem lies in the software, not in our hardware. Please acknowledge and correct the problem, or offer some suggestions on how to fix it.

Chances are that its not the hard drives you are using (but you should test them, to ensure they are not defective) It could be related to your CD-ROM drive or the brand of media you are using, or the speed at which you are burning it. It can also be related to your PC; CPU, memory, cables, etc.
As we have recommended to others who have had problems in the past, and as we clearly state during the purchase process, a kit is always an option and we are happy to provide full trade-in credit of a software purchase towards the purchase of any of our upgrade kits.
As much as you may think its the software, its not, and there is no reason to believe it is - the software has been proven to work over the past four years and nothing has recently changed that would affect it - it's something related to your environment.
