Hell, newbie here with a question or two
I searched for this topic but did not find an answer.
I just had a friend help me replace the failing hard drive in my seris 2 tivo, it's a phillips dsr-708 model. Just another 80 gig WD drive, but new. We used instant cake and the ptv software on it, everything seems to be working fine as I can watch tv no problem.
My question is this:
Is there some way to get the data off of the old hard drive with my PC? I am running windows XP. The drive is still operational and I would like to save any or all data that is on it and possibly re-use the old tivo drive elsewhere.
When I install the old tivo drive into my PC, windows says "new hardware found",etc.. but it labels it as a mass storage device,, and when I try to open it it say that I need to insert a disk into that drive.. BUT, the hard drive is detected just perfectly in the BIOS.
I've had the jumpers on cable select, as well as slave..
Anybody have any suggestions? Will I be able to get anything off my old tivo drive with my PC or am I going to have to find somebody who runs linux to help me out? Will the data even be usable in my windows PC?
Thanks for any and all replies
