First, my dilemma:

I have a Pioneer 810-h unit and took it in for repairs. They replaced the hard drive and in the process installed TIVO version 5.2, (four full versions under current!). I have long since gone over to digital voip phone service and was using my wireless router to get program info, since TIVO's analog modem won't work with digital.

But, the new hard drive, with the antiquated version of TIVO's software is sooo old, there isn't even the option to tell it to use a wireless router instead of dialing out! So, now I"m stuck - I've tried dialing out a bazillion times without success. I've talked with both Pioneer and TIVO for a patch with no sucess at all. I've tried using friends' homes in the hopes they still had analog, but they've all gone over to voip, ie, digital. I've looked for downloads that might produce an image to burn to a cd and pop it into my unit to install a more up to date system, but can't find any.:(

I guess I'm saying, I've really tried and instacake is the only glimmer of hope I've found.

So, my question is, whether I use instacake on my current Pioneer hard drive or on a new one, when I pop the hard drive into my unit, will it result in a TIVO operating system/software that is new enough to recoginze and provide menu options for using my wireless modem?

Anyone know what software version you end up with after using instacake?

Thanks ahead for help:)

Please see the release notes (link below) for version information specific to your make/model of unit. Thx.

...Thanks for info. It helped me to find the following quote, which concerns me somewhat, since I can't call out:

"For some Series2 standalone units, some units may ship with a software that will need you to use your phone line, instead of your network adapter to make your initial call and setup call. Once your TIVO downloads the latest software again, your adapter should go back to working just fine."

If the above is the case, this would result in me being out the cost of buying a hard drive, purchasing the instacake download, installing, etc, only to place me in the same situation I am currently in, nothing gained. (see my original post).

Can anyone shed any additiona light on the disclaimer I quoted, (see above)?

Thanks.

Lawyer speak. Prevents lawsuits. No guarantees in this life. Not even that the Sun will rise tomorrow. :D I have used instantcake many times in the past, it does work, and will provide you with working software provided your machine works

Its not a disclaimer. But it is a fact that there are newer adapters that require drivers not present in older versions of the TiVo software. If you are uncertain of the specifics of your particular USB Ethernet adapter, or don't have access to a phone line (even a friends) which might be used to get your unit up to date, then a DIY project such as this may not be your best choice.

Consider sending your unit for a professional installation of one of our kits and we'll do all of the work and ensure your unit is updated to the latest version available.

Thanks,
