Thx. Remember, there is no reason you cannot use the current version of InstantCake (or a replacement drive kit) to repair a failed unit. Even though it is based upon 6.2a, if your unit is authorized for the update to 6.4a from DIRECTV, it will simply update within a few days of being put into service.

This is the question I came here to get answered, though I'm going to ask it slightly differently!

I have a Hughes SD-DVR40.

I instantcaked a couple months ago, had trouble with the 137GB limit, but found a recent PC and everything is now fine, works great, thank you very much...$20 well spent! 226hrs on my 250GB drive I put in it.

But the software I'll assume is 6.2a (I'm at work right now, can't check).

It has NEVER made a phone call...the DirecTivo was NEVER hooked up to the phone line after being instantcaked.

I believe I'm not getting nag screens due to your patch that prevents that. Since that was the case, I never bothered to hook up the phone line. I don't think I even configured it with an area code or anything like that.

However, I am interested in going to 6.4a; I really want the recently deleted folder (thanks to my kids going delete-happy).

I have not added any other hacks to the machine (ie zipper, or anything else...nor do I really have the inclination to...it was instantcaked...that's it) I also don't care about MRV.

My questions:
Will my box dial out if I configure it with area code and hook up the phone line?
Will my box eventually update to 6.4a?
Will it break the non-nag routine? (I will only connect it temporarily)
Will I have any other problems?

Thanks!
-Mike

I moved your post over to the appropriate forum area...

If you've just used InstantCake, then there are no modifications we've added to prevent the 'nag' - to answer your qeustions.

Yes.
Yes.
Not applicable.
I have no way to tell you that as something can always go wrong...

Hmmm, I could have sworn I read somewhere that you prevented the nag screens. But going back through the instructions, I can't find it. Maybe it was some odd post somewhere.
I know I'm not getting any nag screens right now...'course, it never did the initial call to begin with. Maybe that's what I'm thinking of, and there was some setting that prevents that from being needed?

Take my word for it; InstantCake does nothing more than create a replacement drive for your unit; no modifications to prevent nags. How do I know this? I wrote the software... :-)

Hi Lou,

I purchased and download Instant Cake 6.2a on 8/10/2008 to upgrade to a 200GB hard drive. Will I have problems after DirecTV updates my Samsung SIR to 6.4a?

Thanks,
Joe
