I read all about the Series 3 Instant Cake disk and how it is designed to recognize SATA drives connected to the USB 2 to SATA adaptor. I am using IC part #TCD648, for Tivo Series 3 TCD648250. The Instant Cake startup log (dmesg | more) detects a USB port, and assigns sda drive designation to the USB connection with the SATA drive. I then entered the "advanced" mode and all of the other options are given as PATA drives: hde, hdf, hdg, and so on.
Questions arising: Do I have a copy of Instant Cake that cannot deal with SATA drives? Should I replace the disc with a newer one? Why does the script go on listing PATA (IDE) drive letters on Series 3 upgrade software?
Thanks,

If you are not getting the option to specify a SATA device for either your CD-ROM or the drives you've connected for your upgrade, then you've gotten an earlier version of the software that only supports IDE drives.
If that is the case, you need one of these (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores/1/accessory_nomodel.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=377).
Where and when did you get your copy of the software?

A quick search revealed this thread you created awhile back... perhaps the issue you are having now is the same as the one you ran into last year?
Take a look here... (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157)

You are correct, I'm using the early version of the Instant Cake, so I have re-ordered the newer version. I'm willing to try anything at this point, so I'll try the IDE-SATA adaptor that you mentioned also.
I figured that the software was not the same, because I could not start the script using the command "PTVbake3".
Thanks for your suggestions
