Greetings,
I have a HUMAX DRT800, which is stuck on "Welcome, Powering Up" screen. I called HUMAX and they asked me to enter a code "57" to kick start it. It did not work. I appreciate some help as how to get this fixed. If this is a hard drive issue, can I just stop by at the local Best Buy and get a replacement? I also need to know how to prepare the new hard drive for installation. I see there are start up kit being sold on www.weaknees.com but I am not sure if that is the best way to go. Thanks in advance.

It could be a bad drive, in which case one of our kits (http://www.dvrupgrade.com) will solve the problem. If you are technical, you can remove the drive and connect it to a PC to run diagnostics on it - if it fails, then you've found the problem.
If its not the drive, it could be something else that can be repaired. If you order a 'recertification' from our site, and send us the unit, we can check it out and offer you some options once we know what is wrong.

Thanks in advance. You should use Instantcake from www.DVRupgrade.com for $20.00. It gives you an Image to load from CDrom and takes less than 1/2 hour and your machine is running like new! :)

Thanks so much for your reply. Can I use Instantcale to repair my existing hard drive? I have read up on it but it seems to me it is only good if you are trying to replace a bad hard drive with new one or upgrade your existing HD. Thanks again.

Instantcake is for drive replacement only, it reimages the drive and all prior files are lost. If you want to repair the disk and save files (shows) if possible you should use the MFSlive bootable CD available at www.MFSlive.org. It will require some study on your part but the CD is free and if you mess up you can always purchase Instantcake. Both require a PC with the CDdrive on the slave device on the primary channel and your target drive as master on the secondary IDE channel. Good Luck:)
