I have a Hughes SD-dvr80 that I upgraded with two 500 GB drives by sending my unit to Hinsdale last March. Recently the drive plugged into the end of the ribbon cable had a massive failure. I've purchased a replacement 500 GB drive and Instant Cake software. Is there a way I can preserve any programming on the second drive? Or will I need to use Instant Cake to bake a two drive unit, thereby writing over the data on the second drive.

I replaced the failed drive with my origional drive, and the second drive isn't being recogonized.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

No, there isn't, for two reasons...

1) InstantCake prepares a new drive or set of drives for your unit; erasing whatever is on them.

2) The two drives you had.. the content was intermingled on both of the drives; there is no way to separate the content from the operating system and no way locate the content onto one drive, in particular; when you lost one drive, you lost the content on both of them.

Hopefully, you ran thorough diagnostics on whatever drive you used in your unit this time around; regardless of whether it was a new drive or not, it is still the best thing to do.

Thanks for your quick response! So now I have one out of the box new 500GB hard drive and one used (second drive). Do I need to do a low level format on the used drive prior to using Instant Cake for a two drive system? Or will Instant Cake perform a format as part of the process?

Thanks again.

Bob

Instantcake does not format but their is no need to. Remember to do manufactures diagnostics
before Instancake.
