Hi,

Just installed new drive in Series 1 Phillips 312-02 Tivo.
Runs great.

Unit has a preinstalled Turbonet card.
(Installed several years ago and appears to download Tivo programming schedules just fine under the brand new drive.)

I suspect a problem with the ftp of .NETREADY to the new drive.
Transfer of the .NETREADY (file to unlock Tivo) doesn't appear to complete - EVER.
It runs forever and doesn't appear to return the last two lines I am expecting - per DVRUp instructions.

The complete text from the command window is below.

Any suggestions?

200 PortConnected to 10.0.1.200.

search this page for unlock then download MFSlive1.3b.iso and write cd. Then boot from it

Hi, Rick,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Seems to me the option you suggest requires me to pull the new Tivo drive and put in into a desktop PC IDE controller, then boot the CD you mention and start hacking.

Is this true?

One reason I went with DVRUpgrade's kit was they stated all I needed to do was drop the drive in my Tivo, then ftp/telnet my way to unlocking the backdoor to the Tivo.
Apparently this is not the case with the new DVRUpgrade?

I thought all you wanted to do was unlock the drive. MFSlive has a function that does that. I am not a hacker and cannot answer any hacking questions. Not because I have anything against hacking, I just don't know because I have not done it.:)

Let me ask this another way:

Why won't the ftp routine for unlocking the DVRUpgrade drive work as advertised?

I follow the (your) instructions to the letter and ftp appears to hang.

I bought the drive from DVRUpgrade so I wouldn't have to load a drive into a PC and boot a unix CD, etc etc.

It does work (and has, for many years).

The problem is with your network and/or your lack of knowledge about how it (and FTP) works. For starters, your IP address looks strange, so there might be something specific about your router's configuration that is causing the problem.

Try typing 'passive' before transferring the file, that may help.

Alleged knowledge short-comings and network failures aside.

Attempts to webbrowse http://10.0.1.200 prove repeatedly unsuccessful.
(Presumed address for tivowebplus.)

Here's what I can tell you...

Can successfully examine 10.0.1.200 (via ftp tool or bash) and see several files such as "TIVOWEB_ON" "BASH_ON" et al.
a ptvupgrade folder is present on the same partition as "/var" et al.
It contains, among other things a fold "tivoweb194"

So it looks like the files made it over and installed

ps -e at the bash prompt indicates two running processes.
Both reference TIVO_SVR_ADDR=192.168.50.1:80
I presume that this ip address is used by Tivo service?
But I don't know this.

Do you require a specific IP address to access tivowebplus?
Other than the ip address my router is assigning?

(Am attempting the same 10.0.1.200 and it fails - even after repeated Tivo reboots.)
