I have a Series 2 TCD140060 that has been acting up for the last couple of months. It keps restarting once in a while so I thought that I may have a 250GB Instacake drive going bad. So I purchaced a Western Digital 500GB Caviar SE drive to replace the drive. I have tried multiple times and multiple ways IE instacake and coping the old drive via hinsdale but I cannot get the TIVO to boot up compleatly with the 500GB drive. It gets to just a few more minutes and then restarts. I have tried 56, 57, and 58 restarts with no luck. The instacake I am using was downloaded 10/14/2007. I am not even sure if the problem is the drive or if it is the power supply but I would like to get the 500GB drive to boot up and see if I still have the restart problem. Anyone have any ideas about how I could get this drive to work?

First thing's first... run the manufacturer's diagnostics on the the drive(s) in question. All of the manufacturer's offer free downloadable software on their websites so before doing anything, you should fully check the drive you were originally using and make sure there is nothing wrong with it.

AND, if you don't find anything wrong with the drive, it could be something else with your TiVo (not just the power supply), so once you've ruled that out, you might want to consider a repair service (http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores/1/tivo-repair.cfm)...
