which software version of InstantCake

My hard drive died and I'm about to download Instant Cake and install to a new (old) hard drive. I have directv Hughes HDVR2 dvr.

Does it matter which version of Instant cake I use version 6.2 or 3.1.1.e?

As an aside, does anyone know if I have to preformat the drive to fat32 or will the install of Instantcake format as part of the installation process?

If you are uncertain of which version to pick, then pick the latest version, which is 6.4a.

You do not; just follow the instructions, explicitly, and you should be fine.
